1998 Winter Olympics, Gingillette became one of the most dazzling stars. He won three gold medals in the men's 500m,1000m and 5000m relay races. This made him the first athlete in history to win three gold medals in the short track speed skating competition in the Winter Olympics. He won two silver medals in the 2002 Winter Olympics, one of which came from the men's 500-meter race, and he lost to Yang Yang of China.
Kim Gillett has won many honors in the history of short track speed skating, including eight world champions and three gold medals in the Asian Winter Games. After retiring in 2002, he became a short track speed skating coach and commentator. He has always been a supporter and legend of the Korean short track speed skating team.
