Why does Xupu have this folk custom? According to legend, in the first year of Jianwu of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty (AD 25), General Wuwei was still in order to unify the whole country and led an army to recruit soldiers in Xiangxi, and the whole army was wiped out. When there were no generals in the imperial court, Fu Bo general Ma Yuan, who was over 60 years old, took the initiative to fight well. Ma Yuan once had two famous sayings, one is called "a gentleman is poor in ambition and old in ambition"; Another sentence is called "a person should die in a field on the border and bury his ears with the people who died in their boots". Liu Xiu, Emperor Guangwu of Han Dynasty, hesitated considering his age. Ma Yuan, on the other hand, has repeatedly claimed that he can still put on armor and mount a horse, and in front of Liu Xiu, "I will take care of it to show that it is available", and finally dispelled Liu Xiu's doubts and praised: "It's really Weng Ye!"
When Ma Yuan called the army, it was the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, and the soldiers looked reluctant. Ma Yuan said sharply, "On the Dragon Boat Festival, barbarians get drunk. Today is the small end of Sun, and later is the big one of the generals. " Immediately invaded, and sure enough, the other party was drunk and unprepared for the Dragon Boat Festival, and was defeated by Ma Yuan in a few days. On May 15, Ma Yuan slaughtered pigs and sheep to reward his soldiers. Since then, Xupu has designated the fifth day of the fifth lunar month as the Small Duanyang Festival, and May 15th as the Big Duanyang Festival, which has a history of nearly two thousand years.
Although Qu Yuan was a native of Chu, he waded because he rebelled against Yuanjiang in exile. From ancient times to the present, Xupu people regard him as a township party. Xupu people attach great importance to Spring Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival and Double Ninth Festival, and the custom of Dragon Boat Festival is better than other places. However, only Xupu people in the world celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival on the 15th day of the fifth lunar month. It is said that Qu Yuan drowned in Huai Sha on May 5th, and the bad news has reached Xupu for ten days. It is also said that after Qu Yuan threw himself into the river in tears, the news just arrived in Xupu on May 15 of the lunar calendar, so the Dragon Boat Festival in Xupu was later than other places 10 days. Now the newly-built main road from Xupu New Railway Station to Chengbei Bus Station is also named Quyuan Avenue, which shows our Xupu people's memory of ancient Quyuan!
