Excerpts from The Analects of Confucius and Wei Linggong is about the relationship between learning and thinking. In some previous chapters, Confucius has mentioned the understanding that "learning without thinking is useless, and thinking without learning is dangerous", which has been further developed and expounded here.
Confucius believes that one must cultivate one's morality, keep one's family in order to carry forward the Tao. Conversely, it is not a real gentleman's behavior to enrich the people, decorate the facade and grandstanding with Tao. The relationship between them is irreversible.
The key to committing a crime is not deviance, but whether it can be corrected to ensure that it will not be repeated in the future. In other words, making mistakes is not terrible. The terrible thing is to persist in making mistakes without correcting them. Confucius used the simple language of "too much is too late to change" to tell people that this is the only correct attitude towards mistakes.
Thinking is a rational activity, which has two functions. First, if we find that words and deeds are inconsistent or violate morality, we must correct them. On the other hand, we should check whether our words and deeds conform to moral standards and stick to them. But learning and thinking can't be neglected. Learning without thinking is useless. It is also dangerous to think without learning. In short, the combination of thinking and learning can make you a virtuous and learned person. This is an integral part of Confucius' educational thought.
