The Fields Prize in Mathematics is named after the late Canadian mathematician john charles fields. Fields was born in Ottawa, Canada on May 4th, 863. His father died when he was 1 1 years old, so the family's economic conditions were not good. However, poor families inspired Fields' desire to learn. /kloc-At the age of 0/7, Fields was admitted to the University of Toronto, specializing in mathematics. 1887, Fields was only 24 years old and received his doctorate in the United States. Two years later, he became a professor at Allegheny University.
