This sentence is intended to illustrate that if you want to understand others, you must first understand yourself. If you fail to do this, everything will be out of the question. To know yourself is not something that happens overnight. It requires continuous accumulation and reflection, timely discovery of your own shortcomings and mistakes, and learning from each other's strengths to make up for your own shortcomings, in order to achieve success.
4. Those who get rid of it indulge it, and those who indulge it take advantage of it.
From "Guiguzi·Mou Chapter 10". If you want to get rid of him, you have to indulge him, and when the conditions are ripe, take the opportunity to get rid of him in one fell swoop.
5. Appearance is neither beautiful nor evil, so it is very affectionate.
From "Guiguzi·Mou Chapter 10". Translation: Observe a person who is not happy when seeing good things and does not criticize when seeing evil. He is an emotional person and can be entrusted with confidential matters.
6. Those who speculate on emotions will often be extremely lustful when they are very happy
From "Guiguzi·Guessing Skills". Translation: Counselors who try to figure out favors and persuade their masters should lobby when the other party is most happy, so that their desires will be extremely expanded.
7. Therefore, the plan must be thorough; it must be chosen to explain it to the person who understands it. Therefore, it is said: it may be knotted without gaps.
From "Guiguzi·Guessing Skills". The translation says that planning must be thorough and meticulous; lobbying must choose people who share your views. Therefore, it is said: "We must be steady and impeccable in doing things."
8. Therefore, the sage guards his own door, examines his sequence, measures his power and ability, and checks his skills.
From "Guiguzi·捭阖". Translation Therefore, the sage must always grasp the key to the development and change of all things, examine the order of its changes, speculate on its strategies, measure its abilities, and then compare the advantages and disadvantages of skills.
9. The success of things must be in conjunction with numbers, so it is said: Tao, numbers and time coincide with each other. He who speaks listens to it, and it must be in harmony with his emotions. Therefore, it is said: He who listens to his emotions.
From "Guiguzi·Guessing Skills". If the translator wants to succeed in what he is presiding over, he must have an appropriate method. Therefore, it is said: "Objective laws are interdependent with the weather." Those who lobby must make their words reasonable, and only if they are reasonable can people listen.
10. From this point of view, nothing can come out, nothing can enter, and nothing cannot be achieved. You can talk about people, you can talk about family, you can talk about country, you can talk about the world.
From "Guiguzi·捭阖". From this point of view, we can adopt different strategies according to different people, speak when we speak, stop when we stop, come in and out freely, there will be nothing in the world that cannot be solved, and there will be no one who cannot be persuaded. You can use this method to persuade ordinary people, you can persuade a family, you can even control a general, a prince, and you can lobby the kings of the world.
