1. The meaning of integrating theory with practice

Whether theory is connected with practice and whether it can be connected with practice is not only a philosophical epistemology issue, but also a study style issue, and a political issue. It is related to the success or failure of our career.

Historically, when we proposed integrating theory with practice, we mainly targeted dogmatism, bookishness, rigid thinking, and the prevalence of superstition. There are two types of subjectivism, namely dogmatism and empiricism. Dogmatism is more dangerous. Now that we have entered a critical period of reform, we still need to further emancipate our minds and get rid of superstition. At the same time, there are also some trends that violate the principle of "integrating theory with practice" in reality, which deserve our serious attention.

A complete and accurate understanding of "integrating theory with practice" includes two requirements. On the one hand, it emphasizes that "theory must be linked to practice" and rejects empty talk and dogma, because "the degree of realization of theory in a country is always determined by the degree to which the theory meets the needs of the country." A truly ideologically penetrating theory must reflect Practical, meet actual needs; vice versa.

The power of theory is ultimately the power of thought, and the power of thought cannot directly "change the world." But as Marx said, "Once theory masters the masses, it will also turn into material power. As long as theory convinces people, it can master the masses." Theory will also have practical influence. At the same time, it should be noted that the combination of theory and practice also inherently includes the requirement that "practice should be combined with theory."

In the face of new situations and new tasks, practical experience should be summed up in a timely manner, and regular characteristics should be found out, so that they can be elevated to theory and provide scientific theoretical guidance for further work. Marx's famous saying "It is not enough for ideas to strive to become reality, reality itself should strive to become ideas" illustrates this truth.
