govern by non-action [doing nothing that goes against nature]
Some researchers often criticize Taoism, thinking that Taoism does not attach importance to practice, but only likes to talk about meditation and Taoism. Actually, this is a misunderstanding. Taoism has differences with Confucianism on many issues, but there is no difference with Confucianism on this point. As we all know, Taoism attaches great importance to the concept of "Tao". The "Tao" they pay attention to contains the meaning of "doing". They have always opposed taking Tao as the object of speech and not putting it into practice, which is why Laozi put forward some warning theories, such as "learning without worry", "sage without wisdom", "Tao can't be said" and "those who know don't speak, those who speak don't know". In the 5,000 words of Tao Te Ching, it is easy for us to find Lao Tzu's concern for practical problems and the way to govern the country through those seemingly mysterious words. The basic principle of Laozi's way of governing the country is "governing by doing nothing". In my opinion, the principle of "governing by doing nothing" contains three meanings: Laozi put forward the way of governing the country with the goal of creating an ideal society. The ideal society designed by Laozi is "a small country with few people": "a small country with few people makes people die and move to distant places; Although there is a boat, nothing is taken; Although there are soldiers, there is nothing to show off. Let people use it again. Be willing to eat, wear, live and enjoy. Neighboring countries look at each other, the voices of chickens and dogs are endless, and the people are old and dead. " (Chapter 80) Some critics accuse Taoism of retrogression in a retro way, trying to pull human beings into ancient ignorance, which is probably a misunderstanding. They just explained Lao Tzu literally, but they didn't understand the real meaning of what Lao Tzu said. In the society he described, people's survival is well guaranteed, and people live in harmony with nature and others. Because there is no communication, no conflict, no distinction between gentlemen and villains; Everyone lives in peace and there has never been a war. Such a society is undoubtedly a well-off society of Taoism.
