“Establish a mind for the heaven and earth, establish a destiny for the people, carry forward the unique knowledge for the past saints, and create peace for all generations” comes from "Hengqu Quotations", which is a famous saying of Zhang Zai, a master of the Northern Song Dynasty. Contemporary philosopher Feng Youlan put it It is called "Four Sentences of Hengqu", which is the Confucian ideal of using the world.

To "establish a heart for heaven and earth" means to follow the ontology of the universe to promote and establish the heart of benevolence, people and love for things.

"Establishing a destiny for the sake of livelihood" originates from Mencius' thought of "establishing a destiny". "Shengmin" refers to the people, and by expanding it, it means that all people in the world have a place to live and settle down.

"To carry forward the unique learning of the sages", Song Confucianism believed that the Confucian orthodoxy after Mencius had been severed, so the academic traditions of the sages who were about to become extinct should be inherited and carried forward. To "create peace for all generations", Zhang Zai is not limited to the current peace order, but looks at the issues of peace and foundation for all generations from a more far-reaching perspective.
