Lin Zexu’s famous sayings:
1. The sea accepts hundreds of rivers, and tolerance is great; standing on a wall of thousands of feet, having no desire is strong.
This is a couplet written by Lin Zexu in the hall of the Governor's Office when he was the governor of Guangdong and Guangxi. Qian Ren: In ancient times, eight or seven feet was one Ren, and Qian Ren was a metaphor for extremely high height. The ocean can accommodate hundreds of thousands of currents because it is so vast and majestic because of its tolerance; the mountain rock walls stand thousands of feet tall because it is so tall and strong because there are no selfish desires in the world. This couplet reminds us that as an official, you must have a mind that can tolerate different opinions and talents, and be upright and strong without being fettered by selfish desires and distractions.
2. From the sea to the boundless sky, I am the shore, and when the mountains reach the top, I am the peak.
From "Chu Lao". The sea is wide and has no edge, and the sky is the darkness of the sea. The mountain peaks are so high that the top of the mountain cannot be seen, and people are the top of the mountain. This sentence expresses Lin Zexu's ambition.
3. I heard that my son went to bed very late, which is very unacceptable. Work must be done at a regular time, get up early in the morning and go to bed early in the evening.
From "Developing Good Habits" by Lin Zexu. I heard that my son has been going to bed very late lately, which I think is bad. Things must be arranged in time. You need to get up early in the morning and go to bed early at night.
4. When it comes to keeping your donation clean, don’t follow the crowd.
From Lin Zexu's "Yunzuo Shanfang Poetry Notes". Lin Zexu used this poem to express his integrity and never join in with corrupt officials. It means to stay clean and not follow the world.
