Extended information:

The theme of Ecclesiastes laments the emptiness of life.

Man’s labor under the sun is all in vain. Only by trusting God can life be truly satisfied. Solomon was a man of great wisdom and talent, but he abused divine grace and caused the country to fall. In his later years, he saw through everything, repented of his past mistakes, combined his personal subjective experience with objective observation, dialectically argued his opinions, and persuaded the world to accept them so as to avoid making the same mistakes again.

He told the world that whether it is the pursuit of knowledge or happiness, it is vanity and chasing the wind. All human pursuits of wealth, fame, longevity, power, and status turn out to be vain, meaningless, and unsatisfactory. Only in God can we find the meaning and direction of life. Therefore while you are young, remember your Creator.

The key word in Ecclesiastes is "emptiness" - any attempt to find the meaning of life outside of God is futile and emptiness. If you look "under the sun", you will know that man's lifelong pursuit will eventually fail (8:17). Except for God Himself, nothing can fill the empty space God has set in human life.

Augustine’s famous saying: Man cannot be satisfied, and only in God can he find rest. But with God, life becomes complete and meaningful, bursting with hope from God. The preacher ends the book with a positive thought: fear God and keep His commandments, this is the duty that people should do.
