Speaking appropriately will make people happy; speaking otherwise will only make people sad. The same sentence, the same meaning, if spoken by different people, may have completely different effects.
It is recorded in the "Buddhist Sutra" that when the Buddha Sakyamuni faced the enlightened disciples on the lotus pond, he suddenly said "Never the flowers and smiled". No one understood what he meant, only the Venerable Kassapa understood it. The meaning of Buddha. He made a knowing stroke, and thus came the origin of Zen Buddhism. In addition, it is said that when Confucius visited the temple in Houji, he found three golden statues. He kept silent for several times, but inscribed several famous sayings on their backs: "In ancient times, people who spoke carefully should be warned!" "No more words, no more troubles."
The reason why Sakyamuni held up his flowers and smiled without saying a word was Confucius' inscription, "No more words, no more troubles." They are all intended to advise people: they should remain silent, neither arrogant nor impetuous. They would rather appear clumsy than try to be smart, be happy and talkative.
Of course, a person who doesn’t like to talk a lot is not that he is so confused that he has nothing to say, but he understands that talking too much is bound to make mistakes.
The ancients said that "a gentleman should be slow in words but quick in deeds", which clearly warns people that all highly cultivated people are often people who talk less and do more.
Ambiguity mainly refers to a person's ambiguous attitude. When faced with a dispute between two parties, he does not easily express his attitude to avoid offending one of the parties. Although in reality the ambiguous attitude is a bit derogatory, under certain specific situations or circumstances, adopting an ambiguous attitude can actually be a good strategy for self-preservation. Therefore, being ambiguous and not expressing one's position easily has become an important lesson for Liu Luoguo in how to cultivate one's morality if one is too wise and stupid.
When Liu Yong was an official in his early years, he was famous for his upright temperament, both in the government and at home. His lack of cultivation in the way of confusion often caused tensions between superiors, subordinates, and left and right, and he was deposed by Emperor Qianlong several times. In his later years, he entered the center of the country, especially after becoming a co-organizer and a bachelor. After decades of training in officialdom, his cultivation of confusion can be said to be extremely proficient, and he achieved the transformation of "from smart to stupid" and became Sleek, sophisticated, and tolerant. The article "Anecdotes of Liu Wenqing" in the second volume of "Qixia Pavilion Yecheng" says:
"When Liu Wenqing was a foreign official, he was diligent and upright, and for a time he was known as Yama Luo Bao Lao. When Huang Ba became prime minister, his reputation suddenly declined. At that time, He Shen's moxibustion was hot, but Wen Qing was still entertaining him. One day while having dinner at the military aircraft, one of his colleagues recalled the story of the prime ministers having dinner in the Tang and Song Dynasties. He chanted: "If the people don't have palace excrement, why not let the prime minister have dinner in the hall?" He sprayed rice for him as soon as he sat down. This incident is also recorded in "Jiangbei Shihua" written by Hong Liangji at the time. This shows that during the period when He Shen was in power, Liu Yong's behavior was at least not as upright as folklore said, but rather sophisticated and ambiguous.
Poems can express aspirations. Liu Yong's poems in his later years were just like the person he was, indifferent and pleasing to the world, indifferent and pleasant, ambiguous and rarely confused, as if everything had nothing to do with him. The one that best represents this state of mind is "Two Poems on Paintings":
Choose a Person The chest is broad, and all the scenes are touching each other.
The world is destined not to invade, and we can support ourselves by chatting in one room.
It is not necessary to build many houses, just plant bamboos or two or two.
Listen to the bird friends in the window, worship the stone abbot in the court.

In fact, the main ministers at the time were almost as inactive as Liu Yong. According to Yao Yuanzhi's "Zhuye Pavilion Miscellaneous Notes": One of the important reasons why Minister of Military Aircraft Dong Hao was awarded a bachelor's degree at the age of fifty was that he was intelligent and courteous. It is said that he has been in the military aircraft department for more than 30 years. He never speaks harshly to anyone he meets, and is very polite and considerate, even to young children. However, he is very irritable when he comes home from get off work. Therefore, the book praises and says: It is really difficult for people to be humble in an official position for decades.
Zhu Si, the co-organizer of the university, also adopted the approach of ambiguity and ignorance. In his later years, he especially liked to sit alone in the yard with his eyes closed and meditate. When disciples and old officials came to see him, he would always sit leaning on the table, supporting his head with a crutch, with a green handkerchief on the crutch for wiping his eyes, and would not open his eyes when talking to others. He likes to speak in a harmonious manner, never decides on anything, and never expresses his own opinions.
In his later years, Liu Yong was quite tactful in handling political affairs and was noncommittal about anything. "Xiaoting Miscellaneous Records" says: "After Duke Liu Wenqing became the prime minister, he appropriately reconciled himself to the prime minister's exclusive power. He looked funny and had nothing to say at first.
Chunhuang summoned Dai, the new prefect of Yiyi, because he was very evasive and asked about the public affairs. The public responded with "yehao" and was reprimanded by the superiors. Xie Xiangquan, the assistant minister, was quite dissatisfied with his behavior, so much so that he slandered him with negative words. Although his words were fierce, it was clear that he had changed his rules. ”
In addition, in early October of the second year of Jiaqing (1797 AD), Qianlong criticized Liu Yong in his edict regarding the unusual granting of the post of bachelor to Dong Hao, the Minister of Household Affairs, saying: “Liu Yong usually This is evident from the fact that Yu Quanzheng paid no attention to the people he employed, and simply used vague words to cover up his blame. ”
So why did Liu Yong adopt an ambiguous and confused attitude and did not reveal his true thoughts to Emperor Qianlong and Emperor Jiaqing? It turned out that during Qianlong’s reign, many ministers had different personalities due to their personalities. For some reasons, he did not please the emperor. If he made any mistakes, he would be punished and executed. For example, Li Yinpei was originally a member of the governor, but because of his arrogance, he was tabooed by Qianlong in the 29th year of his reign. (1665 AD), when Li Yinpei was appointed governor of Hubei, Qianlong specially told Wu Dashan, governor of Huguang: "Yinpei can manage things and his knowledge is also excellent. But it's hard to avoid relying on talent to be superior to others. You should pay attention to your appointment as a civil servant at the beginning of this year. If there is something wrong in governing things, be good at regulating it. If you don't listen, you will hear it.
I haven’t used it for a long time, but I also want to refine its temperament and make it seem better than before. But I'm afraid that if you are full of ambition, it will be too easy for me to cultivate your ears. ”
However, Li Yinpei didn’t seem to understand Qianlong’s painstaking efforts in “cultivation”, and remained as arrogant as ever, which made Qianlong deeply hate him. In the thirty-second year of Qianlong (1667 AD), Li Yinpei was accused of “partiality” On suspicion of ", he was dismissed from his post, severely interrogated, and sentenced to death in prison. Qiu Jie actually found out that the truth was true and was ordered to commit suicide. Zhuang Yougong, the governor of Jiangsu who had previously been guilty of the same crime, was deeply appreciated by Qianlong because of his gentle temperament, and he was executed within half a year. The crime was due to "the bad habits of other provinces, and among the governors, Zhuang Yougong was not the only one who was like this." He was released and was appointed governor of Fujian.
Due to the emperor's supreme authority and Qianlong's rule, he was released. The policy of controlling ministers made the ministers in Qianlong's court have almost no personality. This is the real reason why Liu Yong adopted an ambiguous and confused attitude, and of course it was also a last resort for him to protect himself.
