Obama's speech
If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.
If there are still people who doubt that the United States is a country where anything is possible, and there are still people who doubt whether the dreams of the founding fathers are still relevant in our time. There are still those who doubt the power of our democracy, and tonight, you heard the answer.
It's the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen, by people who waited three hours and four hours, many for the first time in their lives, because they believed that this time must be different, that their voices could be that difference.
It was those voters who stood in long, endless lines at schools and churches today who answered; it was those who waited three or four hours to vote. Hours of people responded. Many of them are voting for the first time in their lives because they believe that this time is really different - that their voices will make this time different.
It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democratic and Republican, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled. Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been just a collection of individuals or a collection of red states and blue states.
We are, and always will be, the United States of America.
The answers came from young, old, poor, rich, Democrats, Republicans, blacks, whites, Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, gays and lesbians, disabled and able-bodied. The United States tells the world that we have never been half red and half blue (Translator: representing the Democratic Party and the Communist Party respectively.), we are the United States of America.
It's the answer that led those who've been told for so long by so many to be cynical and fearful and doubtful about what we can achieve to put their hands on the arc of history and bend it once more toward the hope of a better day.
Many people are cynical, worried and doubtful due to their long-term exposure. But today they answered. Their hands turned history around and turned it toward a new day full of hope.
It’s been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this date in this election at this defining moment change has come to America.
We have been waiting for a long time. But tonight, because of our efforts today, because of this election, at this decisive moment, America has finally ushered in a change.
A little bit earlier this evening, I received an extraordinarily gracious call from Sen. McCain.

Sen. McCain fought long and hard in this campaign. And he's fought even longer and harder for the country that he loves. He has endured sacrifices for America that most of us cannot begin to imagine. We are better off for the service rendered by this brave and selfless leader.
I congratulate him; I congratulate Gov. Palin for all that they've achieved. And I look forward to working with them to renew this nation's promise in the months ahead.
I just received a call from Senator McCain, and he was very sincere. He worked hard during this long campaign. And for the country he loved, he paid more and took longer. He endured sacrifices that many of us Americans can only imagine. Our country will be stronger for the sacrifices of this courageous and selfless leader. I also express my admiration for what Senator McCain and Governor Palin have achieved. I look forward to working with them in the coming months to restore America's promise.
I want to thank my partner in this journey, a man who campaigned from his heart, and spoke for the men and women he grew up with on the streets of Scranton and rode with on the train home to Delaware , the vice president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden.
I want to thank my running mate. He campaigned from the heart, and his voice was the voice of those who lived on the streets of Scranton where he grew up, and the people of Delaware who commuted to get off work with him on the train. Now he will be the Vice President of the United States, and he is Joe Biden.
And I would not be standing here tonight without the unyielding support of my best friend for the last 16 years the rock of our family, the love of my life, the nation's next first lady Michelle Obama.
p>Sasha and Malia I love you both more than you can imagine. And you have earned the new puppy that's coming with us to the new White House.
And while she's no longer with us, I know my grandmother's watching, along with the family that made me who I am. I miss them tonight. I know that my debt to them is beyond measure.
To my sister Maya, my sister Alma, all my other brothers and sisters, thank you so much for all the support that you've given me. I am grateful to them.
If it weren't for my closest friends and my family for the past sixteen years I would not be standing here tonight with the support of a cornerstone and the love of my life. That is our nation's next First Lady, Michelle Obama. And my daughters, Sasha and Malia. I love you so much. We'll move into the White House with your newly won puppy. And my grandmother, although she is no longer with us now, I know she is watching - along with the family that brought me to life and defined my life. Tonight, I miss them. I know I owe them a debt that is difficult to repay.
