Joseph Joffre joined the engineering corps after graduating from the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris in 1870. Participated in the Franco-Prussian War, the invasion of Indochina and the colonial war in Africa.
In December 1918, he was elected as an academician of the French Academy. After the war, he served as a member of the French Supreme Military Council and participated in studying issues related to the construction of the French army. In 1922, he served as chairman of the French government's National Defense Committee. Died in Paris on January 3, 1931. He is the author of "1914-1915: War Preparation and Campaign Implementation" and "Memoirs of Marshal Xiafei".
