In human nature, there are both good and ugly sides. Eliminating evil and promoting good is practice. This is a question of China's Confucianism. Mencius said that human nature is good, Xunzi said that human nature is evil, Yang Xiong advocated that human nature is a mixture of good and evil, and Gongsun Zi advocated that human nature is good and evil. Which idea is right? Generally speaking, later generations like to favor Mencius, because Confucius and Mencius are Confucian orthodoxy. So it can also be said that Buddhism advocates the theory that human nature is good. Buddha said that "all living beings in the world have the wisdom and virtue of Tathagata" and all living beings have Buddha nature. This is the basis of advocating Buddhist theory of good nature. In fact, although Buddhism can be said to be a theory of good nature, it can also be said to be a theory of evil nature. The essence of Buddhism is neither good nor vicious. All living beings have Buddha nature, which is a theory of good nature; All sentient beings have not yet become Buddhas because they are ignorant from the beginning. This is the theory of evil nature. Because the theory of good nature can prevent evil from returning to good, and the theory of evil nature can eliminate evil into good; They have different views, but the purpose is the same. So Buddhism can meet the needs of both sides and suit it. Fundamentally speaking, the Confucian theory of good nature or evil nature only discusses the essence of present life, saying that good nature and inherent vice are counted from the time they fell to the ground. They have no ability to investigate the good and evil behavior before this life, nor can they investigate the good and evil behavior after this life. Mencius emphasized rational value, so human nature is good, while Xunzi focused on the transformation of physical properties, so human nature is evil. In fact, they only see one side and ignore the other. From this perspective, Buddhism is neither good nor evil. Because Buddhism looks at all beings from the beginning until it reaches its ultimate goal-becoming a Buddha, it is impossible to judge good and evil from the present life; For all sentient beings, the Buddha nature of good and the ignorance of evil are basically that he is my brother, and they are inseparable. Where there is Buddha nature, there is ignorance. They are two sides of a whole. In life and death, whether there is ignorance or not, life and death are Buddha nature. Physical property comes from ignorance, and reason sprouts from Buddha nature. Therefore, it is wrong to say that our nature is good, evil and wrong. Judging from the present life, good and evil, reason and things are born, good is good, and evil is evil. (
