Master Xuanhua: This is a solid branch, honor and filial piety

Sakyamuni Buddha ascended to the Trayastrim Heaven to save his mother. Because seven days after the birth of the Buddha, the Buddha's mother Maya died and was reborn in Trayasatra Heaven.

Maya is Sanskrit. When translated into Chinese, it means "Great Skill", and when translated into Chinese, it means "Illusion". The mother of the Buddha was the mother of thousands of Buddhas in the past. She was the mother of every Buddha who was born. It is such a strange thing. She came to be the mother of the Buddha, and after the Buddha became a Buddha, the Buddha would preach the Dharma to save her. This is just like us singing in the human world.

In this world, if you understand, everything is like a show; within this show, that is the true meaning of life, a truth of life. If you understand this truth, you will also understand that truth.

Therefore, when watching a play, people who generally don’t watch it only watch the program. There are joys and sorrows, as well as joy, joy, sadness, fear, love, evil, and desire. Just watch this. Some. What about people who understand? Take a look! ah! It turns out that this is all an illusion, and life is just like that. "All conditioned phenomena are like bubbles in a dream, like dew or lightning, and should be viewed as such."

Therefore, Buddhism's transformation of sentient beings is also a game of samadhi. He didn't take the matter seriously. It’s not like us ordinary people, who are also attached to the East and the West, more attached to the North and the South, and even less able to let go of the Up and Down. We cannot see that everything is perfect and everything is nothing but false and unrealistic. If you can't be like this, you have some attachments. .

The role of Lady Maya, the mother of Buddha, is to be the mother of Buddha—the mother of thousands of Buddhas. And after every Buddha becomes a Buddha, he has to go to the Trayastrim Heaven to preach the Dharma to his mother. This is the case for every Buddha.

But this statement requires the Wheel King to come to ask for the Dharma. The Wheel King is the Wheel-turning Holy King, or Sakyamuni. When Shakyamuni Buddha went to the Trayastika Heaven to preach the sermon, who invited him? This was requested by his father. His father was Chakravartin, and he said to the Buddha: "You should go to the Trayastrim Heaven to speak Dharma for your mother and save your mother!" This was Chakravartin asking for Dharma from Sakyamuni Buddha.

Some scriptures say that Emperor Shi asked for help. Emperor Shi is the God of the Thirty-three Heavenly Traitors, and he is the poor woman who built the temple in the past. That poor woman became a God because she built a temple. After she became a God, she knew that the Buddha's mother was in this heaven, so she went to ask the Buddha to come to the Trayastrim Heaven to preach. Some classics say this. So no matter how you say it, in short, if the Buddha teaches the Dharma, someone must ask for the Dharma.

Sakyamuni Buddha preached the Dharma to his mother. What Dharma did he preach? Explain the Dharma of "Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva's Original Vow Sutra". This law talks about filial piety, and everyone should be filial to their parents. Why should we be filial to our parents? Because parents are the foundation of a human being, being filial to your parents is like applying fertilizer to yourself. To practice filial piety yourself is to apply fertilizer to your own roots.

So if you are not filial to your parents, you will definitely have no future. If you can be filial to your parents, you will have a good foundation and you will have a bright future in the future.

The so-called "the roots are strong and the branches are flourishing" - if the roots are cultivated, the branches and leaves will naturally flourish; "the roots are deep and the leaves are flourishing" - if your roots are cultivated deeply, your branches and leaves will also be flourishing. So Shakyamuni Buddha taught this Dharma.
