Haruki Murakami was born in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan on 1949. He graduated from the drama department of Waseda University. 1979 won the Japanese group portrait newcomer award for his first novel, Listening to the Wind. The Norwegian Forest, which won Nohiko Award and Tanizaki Junichiro Award, has sold tens of millions of copies so far and is one of the best-selling writers in Japan.
