Genghis Khan's era was 700 years earlier than modern Mongolia's independence. A century and a half later, the Four Great Khan States and the Yuan Dynasty established by Genghis Khan's descendants fell apart and disappeared in the long river of history.
In other words, the independence of modern Mongolia has nothing to do with Genghis Khan. Whether Mongolia is independent or not will not change Genghis Khan's expedition to Central Asia, but will bring about the map of Asia and Europe and regime change. Or to put it bluntly, Genghis Khan's deeds or existence are widely known today without more publicity from Mongolians (even conversely, Mongolia, as a Sino-Soviet/Sino-Russian buffer state, has no sense of existence without Genghis Khan among its ancestors ... By the way, Genghis Khan's mausoleum is still in Inner Mongolia. )
