Confucius was a "god" in ancient China. He was in a high position for more than 2, years, and his thoughts basically penetrated into all aspects of life. Confucius, as a teacher, will be outspoken in the face of disobedient students, damaging others' skills and leaving teachers behind. On one occasion, because Confucius disagreed with the student Zaiyu, he said in a hurry, "You can't carve rotten wood, and the wall of dirt can't be carved." As soon as this statement came out, it spread for more than 2, years, which is a model of swearing. Zaiyu's life?
Zaiyu is a typical "bear student" in the teacher's mind. He likes to argue with the teacher and sing the opposite, which often makes Confucius angry. Zaiyu is nearly thirty years younger than Confucius, and one of the ten philosophers and thirteen sages of Confucius. He is highly respected in later generations, and has been given various titles, including "Linzi Gong", "Qi Gong" and "Sage Zaiyu" ... Unlike Yan Hui, whose teacher is highly praised, Zaiyu may be the student who is scolded the most by Confucius, and he is a typical student who scolds his physique.
Actually, the reason for scolding is related to Zaiyu's personality. Zaiyu likes to sing against Confucius in class. Zaiyu refutes whatever Confucius says, which often makes the teacher speechless. Although Zaiyu likes to play against himself, Confucius still loves him, travels around the world with Zaiyu and sends him to Qi and Chu. On the way around, it is not so boring for you to amuse yourself.
Unfortunately, later, Zaiyu became an official in the State of Qi, and died because of Tian Chang's rebellion. The death of Zaiyu is regrettable. The source of this statement
As a "problem student", Zaiyu sleeps in class during the day, and The Analects records that Zaiyu sleeps during the day. Unfortunately, when the teacher saw it, Confucius said in a hurry: "You can't carve rotten wood, and the wall of dirt can't be carved." There is no possibility that rotten wood will be carved, and there is no need to paint the walls piled up by manure. Confucius thinks that Zaiyu is completely hopeless, and swearing is so euphemistic. Confucius is really different from ordinary people.
After scolding this sentence, Confucius was still angry, and then he added, "I used to believe what others said, but you didn't change it until you knew what was wrong. It seems that I can't just look at what others said, but also look at what I did." Because of Zaiyu, Confucius even wanted to correct his behavior and habits. Zaiyu is not a good student in the traditional sense like Yan Hui, but has many minor faults. It would be too one-sided to completely deny the slaughter just because of this matter.
Zaiyu may not be able to study, but he has the spirit of questioning, and we can get a glimpse from the refutation of Confucius and Zaiyu. Dialogue between Confucius and Zaiyu
Debate 1: About filial piety. Confucius paid special attention to filial piety and advocated that children should be filial for their parents for three years after their parents died. Later generations, especially the scholar-bureaucrats, strictly abide by this rule, and Zhang Juzheng, who did not go home to observe filial piety because of government affairs, became a handle for future attacks. However, Zaiyu doesn't think so. Zaiyu thinks that three years of filial piety will lead to the collapse of ceremonies and the abandonment of crops. Confucius retorted, "How can you bear it when your parents are dead?"
As a result, the fool returned: "I feel at ease". Angry Confucius had nothing to say but said, "If you feel at ease, you can do it.". After Kong Old Master Q finished this sentence, he was still angry. He added, "It takes three years for children to leave their parents' arms, but you are unwilling to be filial to your parents for three years.". In fact, Zai Yu is not a heartless person. He believes that filial piety exists in the hearts of children, as long as there is filial piety in the heart, and there is no need to stick to fixed procedures, but Confucius does not think so.
In The Analects of Confucius, every time it's Zaiyu's turn to appear, it's basically a scene of being reprimanded. After five appearances, it's reprimanded five times. In a word, Zaiyu is a negative textbook for Confucius to teach other students. Zaiyu even once asked Confucius, "If a benevolent person falls into a well, does a benevolent person come from behind to jump?" It can be seen from this incident that Zai Yu has the spirit of studying and can also question the established rules.
judging zai Yu according to Confucian standards, he is definitely not a good student, and just sleeping in class violates the classroom rules. Confucianism pays attention to students' formality and obeys etiquette norms, while Zaiyu is not a traditional student. Zaiyu's questioning about filial piety is very reasonable, but sometimes it touches the bottom line of Confucius, causing teachers' dissatisfaction, so that the records about Zaiyu in The Analects of Confucius are mostly disobedient.
As far as the status of Zaiyu is concerned, there must be many contributions, but Zaiyu is bolder than other students and dares to challenge authority.
