To the extreme of emptiness, keep quiet.
All things are working together, and I observe them.
Everything in the universe returns to its roots.
In the final analysis, it is called tranquility, and it is called restoration of life.
Return to normal. Know often and clearly.
Ignorance, acting recklessly, and being evil.
Knowing the constant appearance, appearance is fair.
The public is the king, and the king is heaven.
Heaven is the way, and the way is long.
? ——"Tao Te Ching"
This is the content of Chapter 16 of "Tao Te Ching". It means that when the mind reaches the state of emptiness and nothingness, it will have purity and self-control. status. When all things are growing vigorously, I observe the laws of the cycle of life and death of all things with a quiet mind.
Everything in the world must return to its most original state. This kind of return is called "quietness", and "quietness" means returning to the original state. Returning to nature is the natural law of development of all things. Being able to understand this natural law is called "Ming".
If you don’t understand this rule and act rashly, you will cause disaster. If you understand this law, you can tolerate everything. If you tolerate everything, you can be selfless. If you are selfless, you can be a king. The king will naturally follow the laws of nature. If you follow the laws of nature, you will be in line with the laws of nature. If you are in line with the laws of nature, you will last a long time and have no danger in your life.
Human beings are born in silence, which is the nature of nature, and they move when they feel things, which is the emotion of human beings. Only by practicing emptiness and keeping quiet can we realize the "Tao". This reminds me of Zhuge Liang during the Three Kingdoms period. He advocated tranquility throughout his life and pursued the realm of "being indifferent and brightening his aspirations, and being tranquil and far-reaching". In the early stage, he was quiet and indifferent, waiting to take action. In the later stage, he took active action and set his ambition to go far. The "Book of Commandments" written by Mr. Kong Ming to his son can show his pursuit of tranquility in life:
The journey of a husband and a gentleman should be quiet to cultivate one's moral character and frugal to cultivate one's virtue. Without indifference, there is no clear ambition; without tranquility, there is no far-reaching goal. The husband must be quiet to study, and the talent must study. Without learning, one cannot develop talents; without tranquility, one cannot achieve learning; if one is shy, one cannot be energetic; if one is impetuous, one cannot be rational; with age and time, one's will fades with the passing of the day, and then one becomes withered and withered, and many do not survive the world. If you stay in a poor house with sorrow, what will happen to you!
This shows that Mr. Kong Ming attaches great importance to quiet meditation and reflection. Because you have a pure heart and few desires, you can be indifferent to tranquility; because you are indifferent to tranquility, you can be clear-minded and far-reaching. This is the legacy that Mr. Kong Ming left to his son. It is also his summary and understanding of his own life, and it is also a strict requirement for future generations. If a person can achieve inner peace and satisfaction, he can "not be happy with things, not be sad with himself", and look at all aspects of life with a smile, and the clouds are calm and the wind is gentle.
