"Song of the Forest" is a 550-minute documentary that took the film crew four years. In addition to the summary of the first three episodes of the 11 episodes, the remaining eight episodes each point to a forest type with regional characteristics and climate zone characteristics: Qinling Nature Reserve, Changbai Mountain Korean pine coniferous forest, Xinjiang Populus euphratica forest, southeastern Tibet alpine woodland, Hainan tropical rain forest , Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau mountain forest, Wuyishan bamboo forest, and maritime mangrove. These places roughly reflect the layout of China's primeval forests.
