In October 2003, Mo Yan's short story collection "White Dog Swing Frame" was published in Japan. Mo Yan wrote the preface "Thanks to the Akita Dog" with true feelings to interpret and commemorate Mo Yan. I have an indissoluble bond with Kawabata Yasunari's "Snow Country".
One night in the cold winter of 1984, Mo Yan read Kawabata Yasunari's masterpiece "Snow Country" under the lamp. When I read "A strong black Akita dog squatted on a stepping stone there, licking hot water for a long time", an idea flashed in my mind like a flash of lightning. He immediately grabbed a pen and wrote this sentence on the manuscript paper: "The big white and docile dogs originate from Northeast Gaomi Township. After several generations, it is difficult to see another purebred dog." This sentence is the "White Dog" included in this collection. The beginning of "Swing Set". This was the first time that the words "Northeast Gaomi Township" appeared in Mo Yan's novels. From then on, "Northeast Gaomi Township" became Mo Yan's exclusive "literary territory." Mo Yan also changed from a wandering literary beggar to the "king" of this territory. The establishment of the literary geographical name "Northeast Gaomi Township" was an important turning point in Mo Yan's literary history.
