Every time you meet a new friend, there will always be a conversation like this. I said: "Hello, I am Xiaofang, I am an architect."
The other party asked: "Does the architect need to be at the construction site?"
I answered: Yes and no.
He asked again: "Then do you also know about decoration?"
I answered: Yes, I do, but we are not the same as interior decoration.
He asked: "Then you only design the exterior of the house, but do you manage the interior layout?"
I answered: We do both the exterior and the layout.
So the other person seemed to understand the specific content of my profession, but he didn’t seem to understand it.
How to define an architect? I asked myself the same question, so I decided to write a popular science article for my industry and architects, which is not a popular science article.
First, let’s answer the first question, what is architecture?
When most people think of architecture, the first thing they think of is a house. Yes, buildings are houses, all kinds of houses. We live, work, study, play, socialize, etc. all in one place, and architecture is a place that provides you with various functional needs.
The house that is closely related to everyone is the house we are most familiar with. Many people began to know architecture from the real estate industry. From the time you started buying a house, architecture as a product entered our lives.
Architecture is the house where we live, the building is the school where we go to school, the building is the shopping mall where we go shopping, the building is the hospital where we get medical treatment, the building is the gymnasium where we exercise, etc., etc., our daily life In addition to the outdoors, the action tracks shuttle through different buildings.
Goethe once said: Architecture is solidified music.
Good architecture can give people a sense of flow, rhythm and rhythm like music. The Sydney Opera House, which many people are familiar with, brings people a sense of flow like smooth piano music under the hands of a pianist. Beauty.
In ancient and modern times, architecture is also a valuable asset in the world cultural heritage. The pyramids in Egypt, the temples in Greece, the Forbidden City in China, the Louvre in Paris, the Taj Mahal in India, etc. Many beautiful buildings have survived and become treasures over time.
In addition to bringing us visual enjoyment, architecture also creates places that are necessary for each of us to live. Three elements of architecture: solidity, practicality, and beauty. It is the basic principle that all buildings should follow.
Everyone is inseparable from architecture. Architecture is the container of our lives. Eating, drinking, sleeping, etc. are all inseparable from buildings.
After talking about what architecture is, let’s talk about architects. What kind of group are architects?
Lu Ban, who is familiar to Chinese people, is the general representative of Chinese folk craftsmen (architects).
Lu Ban is not only an inventor, but also the ancestor of civil engineering in Chinese history. Most of the buildings in ancient China were wooden buildings. Ancient Chinese architects built exquisite buildings out of wood.
Speaking of civil craftsmen, many people may confuse architects and civil engineers. NO, NO, NO, architects want to say: Architects are the soul of designing buildings, and civil engineers only help us realize this soul of architecture.
An architect is someone who designs a house. He needs to draw sketches, plan drawings, construction drawings, go to the construction site, look at materials, communicate with inspectors, communicate with Party A, and communicate with government departments...
Construction The architect is the person who converts the house in his head into reality. The drawings produced by the architect are called blueprints.
The blueprint is a base plan that is designed and drawn by an architect. After the cooperation of multiple types of work, it is finally delivered to the construction unit and constructed by the construction unit.
Architects are a group of passionate people. If you see someone who is more excited about taking pictures of buildings than scenery in major scenic spots, it is most likely that he is a famous architect. Seeing a favorite building that you yearn for is as exciting as seeing your first girlfriend.
When I went to Shangri-La for the first time, I stood under the high steps of Songtsengan Monastery, and I began to sigh in my heart: How could the ancient architects be so smart, just by relying on these high steps? It makes people feel a sense of admiration and awe for the buildings above.
Architects are people who are good at creating a sense of space. We often say that different spaces bring different experiences to people.
Architects seem to have a perfectionist personality, and they always hope to deliver better results.
Architects design the appearance of the building, the layout of the interior of the building, the decoration of the interior of the building, etc. For example, in our homes, the floor plan we see when we buy a house is the design result of the architect. As an architect, designing buildings that give users a good experience is a lifelong pursuit.
Architects are also a group that is worked overtime and abused by Party A. Party A has abused me thousands of times, but I treat Party A like my first love. This internet quote perfectly describes the current situation of architects. Working overtime and being abused by Party A seems to be a curse that architects cannot escape.
Since college days, staying up late seems to have become a standard part of the growth of architects. Staying up late to do big designs, staying up late to make plans and produce construction drawings after graduation, it seems that architects have a particularly strong fighting capacity.
Architects are a group of people with architectural idealism who complain about the dusk of the industry but are still fighting on the front line. ? 03 My story about architecture
The little woman is also an architect who has been working for nearly ten years. What does this profession mean to me?
When I was in college, I chose architecture as a major by mistake. Many of my classmates chose this major because they had art expertise or someone in their family was in this field. And I broke in by mistake.
It was very painful to learn at the beginning because I had no art skills and could not appreciate the beauty of architecture. The first time I was impressed by architecture was in Shanxi, when I saw the Yingxian wooden pagoda. Under the setting sun, the ancient wooden pagoda stood there quietly, with the luster of history, witnessing the ups and downs of thousands of years of history. Suddenly it hit my heart.
At this moment I suddenly fell in love with architecture.
Later, I was interning with my classmates in Shenzhen. The two of us were sitting in the back row of the bus. The classmate pointed to the high-rise buildings outside and said, "In the future, when I walk on the road, the roadside is designed by me." Architecture, I can talk to it at any time while walking on the road. "I was struck in my heart again, and suddenly I had a sense of mission for architecture.
To this day, whenever I complete a project and go to the construction site for acceptance, I see the drawings I have drawn become a physical existence in my eyes. This sense of satisfaction and accomplishment is difficult to describe in words.
I will also complain about the downturn in the construction industry and complain about the difficult client, but I have never left. I think this is because of the ideal love for architecture in my heart.
Architecture has tortured me thousands of times, and I treat architecture like my first love.
