Lei Feng (December 18, 1940 - August 15, 1962), formerly known as Lei Zhengxing, was born in Changsha, Hunan. Soldiers of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and communist fighters.
Joined the Chinese Young Pioneers in 1954, joined the Chinese People's Liberation Army in 1960, and joined the Communist Party of China in November of the same year. In May 1961, Lei Feng was elected as a representative of the Fourth People's Congress of Fushun City, Liaoning Province as a candidate of the whole league. On February 19, 1962, Lei Feng attended the first Communist Youth League Representative Conference of the Shenyang Military Region as a special representative and was selected as a member of the presidium to speak at the conference.
At 8 a.m. on August 15, 1962, when Lei Feng and his comrade Qiao Anshan were preparing to wash the car, Lei Feng got out of the car and directed the car to reverse. The wheels slipped and knocked down a telephone pole. When it hit Lei Feng's left temple, Lei Feng immediately fainted and died. Rescue efforts by the 202nd Hospital of the Chinese People's Liberation Army failed, and he unfortunately died young at 12:5 that day at the age of 22.
Lei Feng’s greatest influence on later generations is the Lei Feng spirit named after him. The Lei Feng spirit refers to the revolutionary spirit that takes Lei Feng’s selfless dedication as its basic connotation and is continuously enriched and developed in practice. It influenced subsequent generations of Chinese people. In May 2017, reports from the military's authoritative media showed that the newly formed 79th Group Army of the Army was affiliated with the Army of the Northern Theater Command. At the same time, Lei Feng's unit during his lifetime was also affiliated with the 79th Group Army of the Army.
