The motto of Tsinghua University is self-improvement and virtue, while Peking University does not have a clear motto. Tsinghua’s school motto “Continuous self-improvement and virtuous conduct” comes from a speech titled “A Gentleman” delivered by Liang Qichao in the Tongfang Department of Tsinghua University in the winter of 1914.
In November 1914, Liang Qichao gave a speech at Tsinghua University and pointed out: A gentleman's self-motivation is like the steadfast movement of celestial bodies. He should not be exposed to ten cold weather at once. He should not advance when he sees advantages and retreat when he sees difficulties. Emphasis on self-victory, abandoning selfish desires, and being resolute, unyielding, courageous in the face of justice, not avoiding hardships and dangers, and constantly striving for self-improvement; later, "continuous self-improvement and virtuous conduct" was summarized as the school motto of Tsinghua University. Peking University (Peking University), referred to as "Peking University", is directly under the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China.
