Rene Charles (1907-1988) is a famous contemporary French poet. Born in Ile-sur-Sorgue in the Vaucluse province of southern France, he lived in his hometown in the countryside in his early years. Later he engaged in literature and was influenced by Surrealism. In 1930, he co-published a collection of poems "Construction Slows Down" with Breton and Eluard. Since the Second World War, he embraced patriotism and picked up a gun to deal with the enemy. He was the leader of the guerrillas in the Lower Alps. He became close friends with Camus during the resistance movement and received the Order of Knighthood. After the restoration of France, he published many collections of poems. In 1983, Gallimard Publishing House published all of Charles's poems in the classic "Seven Stars Library".
