Nanzhao State, as one of the many vassal states in the Tang Dynasty, maintained a tributary relationship with the Tang Dynasty, and all the kings of the past dynasties accepted the knighthood of the Tang Dynasty.

With the changes in the strength of both sides, there have been several military conflicts, but on the whole, most of the time it is peaceful. However, during the reign of Tang Yizong, the Tang Dynasty and Nanzhao fought again, and a war broke out. In the Tang Dynasty, "50,000 soldiers went to Daxing" and launched an attack on Nanzhao.

However, at that time, it was time for the Tang Dynasty to destroy the temple. The generals lacked national strength, and with the respect of the China powers, they tried their best to make an expedition, but they could never gain an advantage. The cause of the incident was that Nanzhao Wang refused to avoid changing his name. In the 13th year of Dazhong, Nanzhao King advised Feng Youliang to die, and his son succeeded to the throne. According to historical practice, the Tang Dynasty did not interfere in the succession of vassal States, but the new king had to accept the official knighthood of the Tang Dynasty before he could have the right to rule the region.

Tang Yizong has just succeeded to the throne. The Nanzhao messenger came to pay tribute and ask for a seal. Tang Yizong was filled with displeasure when he saw the signature of Nanzhao King on the throne. The new king is the eighth king of Nanzhao. In fact, this is not surprising. Nanzhao uses Ailao and Chinese as the national languages, and its language and writing habits are different from those of the Central Plains. In their eyes, taboo system is neither understood nor necessary. The name of this new king is Meng Shilong. The word "teacher" violated the taboo of Tang Taizong, and the word "dragon" violated the taboo of Tang Xuanzong.

According to the taboo system of the Central Plains Dynasty, these two words can no longer be used in names. Tang Yizong then, in the name of Meng Shilong, forbidden the temples of Emperor Taizong and Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, wrote a letter "Never pay tribute" and cut off the tribute relationship between the two sides. "The Book of the New Tang Dynasty" records that "the letter of the imperial edict is doubtful by its name, and the book's life cannot be lifted, so it will be renamed and sealed".

Make it clear to Nanzhao king that as long as you change your name, you will be conferred the title immediately. Tang Yizong also asked the talented ministers to give Meng Shilong a new name: Shuxin, an elegant and elegant name. Who knows that Meng Shilong, the king of Nanzhao, is also stubborn. The Book of the New Tang Dynasty records that he "killed young children, was frivolous and violent."

Meng Shilong was furious when he heard that the Tang Dynasty refused to confer titles and asked him to change his name. He doesn't care about the taboo system of the Central Plains Dynasty. My parents gave me a name and got in your way. What happened? The emperor of the Tang Dynasty was cruel to others! Just don't change! This name is settled.
