Follow the requirements of Bodhidharma’s Four Elements.
There are many ways to enter the Tao. To put it simply, there are no two types: one is to enter by reason, and the other is to enter by practice. Those who understand it: It is said that they have enlightened the sect through teachings; they firmly believe that the true nature of life and death is the same, but they are covered by the delusions of the alien world and cannot be revealed. If you give up your illusions and return to the truth, and stand still in contemplation, with no self or other, mortals and saints are the same, and you will not move, let alone follow the culture and teachings, this is the talisman of the truth. There is no distinction, silence and inaction, the principle of name enters. The four lines of conduct are included in this, and the rest of the conducts are all included in this. How four? The first is to retaliate against wrongs, the second is to act according to circumstances, the third is to act without seeking anything, and the fourth is to practice Dharma.
How to repay injustice? As a practitioner of Taoism, if you are suffering, you should think to yourself: In the past countless kalpas, I abandoned the original and followed the last, wandered in all existences, suffered many grievances, and committed infinite harm. Although I have not committed any crimes now, this is my destiny and the result of my bad karma. Ripening is beyond the reach of heaven and humans, and you can accept it willingly without complaint. The scripture says: Don’t worry when encountering difficulties. Why? Knowing the truth. When this mind arises, it corresponds to the principles, and it is the way to realize injustice, so it is said to repay injustice.
Two people who follow conditions: all living beings have no self, and are affected by their karma, and experience both pain and joy, all arising from conditions. If victory, retribution, honor and other things were all my feelings in the past, but now I can get them, and the conditions are gone, how can I be happy? Gains and losses follow the conditions, the mind does not increase or decrease, the joyful wind does not move, the mind is obedient to the Tao, so it is said that words and actions follow the conditions.
Those who seek nothing: The world's people are always confused and greedy, which is called seeking. When a wise man understands the truth, the principles turn against the commonplace, he is at ease and does nothing, the forms follow the movement, everything is empty, and he has no desire to be happy. The darkness of merit and virtue always follows each other. Living in the three realms for a long time is like a house on fire. The whole body is suffering. Who can find peace? Once you reach this point, you give up everything, stop thinking and have no pursuit. The Sutra says: If you ask for anything, you will suffer, but if you don’t ask for anything, you will be happy. Judgment knows that not seeking truth is the way to practice, so I say there is no pursuit of practice.
The four principles of Dharma practice are: the principle of pure nature and the Dharma of the eyes. This principle means that all phases are empty, untainted and unattached, without this or that. The Sutra says: The Dharma has no living beings, because it is free from the defilements of all living beings; the Dharma has no self, and is free from the defilements of the self. If a wise man can believe and understand this principle, he should practice the Dharma. There is no stinginess in the Dharma body, no stinginess in body, life, wealth, and sandalwood, and no stinginess in the heart. It is liberated from the three emptinesses and does not rely on anything. It is only for the purpose of removing impurities and transforming sentient beings without taking the form. This is self-guided, it can benefit others, and it can also lead to the path to enlightenment. Since Tan Shi is good, so are the other five. In order to get rid of delusions, practice the six perfections without doing anything, this is called Dharma practice.
