Nike cooperated with the artist TOM SACHS to launch Nike Mars Code 2.0.
20/kloc-in may/February, Nike and artist Tom Sachs launched NikeCraft Mars Yard sneakers. This shoe was inspired by the communication between Tom Sachs and NASA scientists, and it is also a high-performance sports equipment specially designed for his space program 2.0: Mars Exhibition. In five years, NikeCraft Mars Yard will return in the form of a new upgraded version 2.0. This upgraded version is a long-term experiment of Tom Sachs on the first edition, which has made innovations in materials and solved some unknown problems in the original design.

Nike Mars Code 2.0 passed the wear test and strength test; Passed the folding test; It passed all kinds of tests, but when we really started to use it, the shoes did not meet our expectations. Tom Sachs explained: "You don't realize the problem until you really put on your shoes ... We used new materials and expected it to perform better." Vectran is lighter and stronger than ordinary polyester fabric, but it is easy to make people feel tired.

Under the guidance of Nike designers, Tom Sachs spent another five years testing this shoe. During this period, he realized that the problem of shoes can only be found through daily wear. Therefore, the newly improved NikeCraft Mars Yard 2.0 finally presents the same design concept as Tom Sachs and Nike: we believe that it is an endless exploration to help enhance human potential by continuously improving the designed equipment. After more than five years of wearing experience, Tom Sachs realized the limitations of the first edition of NikeCraft Mars Yard, and cooperated with Nike designers to enhance the durability of shoes. Mars code 2.0 abandoned the Vectran fabric used in the first edition and replaced it with polyester warp-knitted mesh fabric (better air permeability, less internal hot spots, not fancy but very real). The red strap on the shoes uses more durable X-shaped stitches. The raised part of the sole originally came from Nike Special Forces Boots (SFB) adapted to desert environment, but this design is more suitable for urban environment after adjustment. Finally, Mars Code 2.0 adopts double insoles, namely net surface layer and cork layer (suitable for barefoot design).

Mars Yard 2.0 is the result of constant adjustment and pondering, which is the established practice of Tom Sachs in artistic creation. In fact, the creation of Tom Sachs' works is endless. Adhering to the premise of this concept, Tom Sachs strives to fully present his design concept in the practice process, one nail, one needle and one thread. This shows that his requirements for his works are not only material, but also spiritual. He believes that the spiritual level is the foundation of the birth of an object (Tom Sachs is known as a sculptor and is good at transforming contemporary famous symbols. At present, his works span a variety of media. Tom Sachs' fascination with everyday materials is also reflected in the design of NikeCraft Mars Yard 2.0 and earlier versions. He tried to keep the fabric in its original state, without dyeing, and Tom Sachs decorative pattern (his signature) and Swoosh logo were printed on the red tab of the shoes.

"I always accept shortcomings. Natural polyurethane midsole is easy to show wear marks. This shoe will tell you what it has experienced, even the tongue that may peel off, just like the crumbs used by forensic doctors to analyze cases. " Tom Sachs pointed out: "People will be proud of their scars, which is why we don't polish the flaws on the fabric, because they are full of stories. You can wear your shoes very dirty and say, "Wear your own shoes, live your own life and cherish the evidence of your efforts." Under this mental infection, with the release plan of NikeCraft Mars Yard 2.0, the space camp that Nike cooperated with Tom Sachs was also launched. Participants can gain a unique experience by personally participating in the practical work of Tom Sachs Workshop.

The day spent in Tom Sachs' studio started with a refreshing cup of coffee and a series of trainings. Some are serious physical training: mainly gymnastics and strength strengthening, such as push-ups and hard lifts; There are also some hand dexterity tests, such as tying knots and drawing straight lines, to help participants get rid of external interference and devote themselves wholeheartedly to what they are doing. Workshop members are trained to create sculptures. "The reason why we started doing this is that I noticed that some studio partners began to experience some physical decline after getting old, and so did I ... so I hope I can protect young people who give up their lives for work. I don't want them to have back problems in the future. " Tom Sachs said this. Since 2005, he has followed Pat Manocchia's "Five Basic Exercises" (hard lifting, striding, pull-ups, push-ups and sit-ups). These physical training in the space camp can strengthen the body, and then when your mind needs to make difficult decisions, you can have a healthy body as the backing to help you. We do this training three times a week in the space camp. The space camp brought by Nike and Tom Sachs is actually to present the daily exercise content of the studio in a series of physical and mental challenges. This series of training contents for mind, body and personality can also be easily integrated into daily life and become a habit. Students who attend and complete the Space Camp course (full course 1 hour, suitable for participants of all exercise intensities) will be given priority to purchase NikeCraft Mars Yard 2.0 as a reward for their fearless and persistent spirit.

Tom Sachs x Nike The cooperation between Tom Sachs and Nike fully shows the artist's strong curiosity. "Any project is an opportunity to learn." Tom Sachs said this. The first formal cooperation between Tom Sacks and Nike began in 2009, when he was one of the exhibitors of "STAGES Cancer Public Welfare Exhibition". Five years later, the brand once again joined hands with Tom Sachs to bring "Space Camp 2.0: Mars" to explore the health requirements of space travel from the artist's unique perspective. This project also promoted a number of innovative Nike products, including Mars code, which laid the foundation for the re-evolution of core concepts.
