Personally think:
Publishing house: it must have a certain influence, such as People’s Literature Publishing House, Oriental Publishing House, etc.
Version: preferably the 1st First printing of an edition.
If it is a series of books, it is best to make a set.
If it is translated foreign literature, check whether there are other translations in Shanghai, and whether it is directly translated from the language of the country of publication. For example, I have specially collected a set of translations of Mr. Feng Zikai’s "The Tale of Genji" from Japan, but I don’t have collections of the popular ones now
Another reference is provided, but this article is not for of modern novels. Therefore, it is for reference only
"Which editions of books are valuable for collection"
1. Fine print. Refers to hardcover printing or special printing. For example, "Paradise Lost" translated by Zhu Weizhi of Shanghai Translation Publishing House had only 3,400 hardcover copies printed for the first time.
2. Signature copy. Some books themselves are written by famous people. In addition, if they have signatures and messages from famous people, they are more meaningful and their value will be higher. For example, in 1991, a specially numbered book of "Capriccio" signed by Mr. Ba Jin was sold in Shanghai for as much as 13,000 yuan.
3. First version. Most of the first edition books are printed and proofread by the author himself. It has always been valued by typographers. For example, the first collection of essays by the famous poet Zang Kejia, "The Collection of Luanju", has become a treasure in the collection world.
4. Uncut version. It refers to books whose edges have not been cut by binding tools, also known as wool-bound books or rough-edged books.
5. Solitary copy. For example, Mr. Huang Shang's "Jinfan Collection" only contained two volumes at that time, so it became a rare book.
6. Original version from Hong Kong and Taiwan. Its original copy is favored by collectors due to its exquisite printing.
7. Ancient book versions. Because the older the edition, the more valuable it is to collect, such as Tang poetry, Song poetry, Ming and Qing novels, etc.
