Sanmao, formerly known as Chen Maoping (later renamed Chen Ping), is a modern Chinese writer. He was born in Chongqing in 1943. In 1948, he moved to Taiwan with his parents. In 1967, he went to Spain to study, and later went to Germany, the United States, etc. In 1973, he settled in the Spanish Sahara Desert and married Jose. After returning to Taiwan in 1981, he taught at the Cultural University. He resigned from the teaching position in 1984 and focused on writing and speaking. Chen Ping Sanmao's ancestral home is Dinghai, Zhejiang Province. According to Chen Ping's family tree "Chen Family Yongchun Hall Genealogy", Chen Ping's ancestors moved from Henan to Zhejiang in the early days. His father Chen Siqing is a successful lawyer and his mother Miao Jinlan. Chen Ping was born in Chongqing in 1943. He is the second child. When Chen Ping was in the second grade of junior high school in 1955, he often got zero marks in mathematics. When he just dropped out of school, Chen Ping was transferred by his parents to the Taipei American School, where he was sent to learn flower arrangement, piano, and traditional Chinese painting. He also studied landscapes with the famous Huang Junbi and flowers and birds with Shao Youxuan. She likes reading, and her father taught her to memorize Tang poetry and Song lyrics, read "Gu Wen Guan Zhi" and read English novels. However, Chen Ping suffered from depression and has been in a self-enclosed state of mind. I committed suicide by slitting my wrists, and I also saw a psychiatrist, but once-a-week psychotherapy didn't help.

While at the Cultural College, Chen Ping admired Liang Guangming, a talented scholar from the same school who had published two books under the pen name Shu Fan. He took the initiative to provide his contact information, and the two began to date. When Liang Guangming was a senior, Chen Ping, a junior, used to go to Spain to study as a bargaining chip after forcing him to get married several times. As a result, Chen Ping completed the procedures to go abroad and the two broke up. Chen Ping committed suicide and received 28 stitches.

On January 4, 1991, Sanmao, who was hospitalized for endometrial hyperplasia, was found dead in the Wing General Ward in Taipei. The cause of death was that she hanged herself with stockings. There is a saying that Sanmao was in a state of "mental exhaustion" and could not fall asleep without taking sleeping pills before going to bed. As the dosage of sleeping pills continued to increase, he finally took too much and accidentally got suffocated by stockings wrapped around his neck while in a daze. Died at the age of 48. Her family also clarified that she did not commit suicide. Half a month before her death, she told her mother that she wanted to be a nun. On the other hand, there are various rumors that Sanmao's early death was caused by her passion for psychics. There are also rumors that she was murdered.
