On February 26th, 2003, Shanghai Jinjiang Auditorium held the conference of "Hanxin No.1" high-end DSP digital signal microprocessor chip.
Investigation on the Rumors of "Hanxin No.1" Falsification (Ⅱ)
Our reporter Yang Linhua Yao Feng Li Xiaoyan.
Reports from Shanghai and Beijing
"Streaming and packaging through two companies is unreasonable." The informant said. Hua Hong, a senior official of NEC, also said: "Usually it is only done in one company, and it will not be done alone."
Late at night on 24th 1 1, the noisy Shanghai People's Square was deserted. In a parked white car, a chubby young man in a light-colored down jacket motioned to the reporter: "I am the informant you are looking for."
He said that after a day's consideration, he hoped to "meet" with reporters-this was his first time to face the media.
"We are very worried about security." Every 20 minutes, the informant drives a white car for a while.
During the nearly two-hour conversation in the car, the whistleblower revealed in more detail how he thought "Jin Chen, the inventor of Hanxin No.1" made a fake.
"I have a series of CD evidence in my hand." The whistleblower claimed that "these CDs have a detailed fraud process in Chen Jin, including technical fraud content, physical photos and some illegal fund account books."
However, what he finally showed reporters was only "the first evidence".
The first evidence: streaming media service of ENSOC company?
"Jin Chen has always only said that' Hanxin No.1' is a slide through SMIC and a package through Yu Wei." The whistleblower said, "I have proof that what he said is not true."
According to the whistleblower, Jin Chen applied to Shanghai Jiaotong University for a movie streaming fee of 300,000 RMB in the name that "Hanxin No.1" was streamed by American Ensoc TechnologiesLtd After being approved by leaders at all levels of Jiaotong University, the money was finally credited to American Ensoc account.
"This is a' leather bag' company without any main business." The whistleblower said, "The legal representative of American Ensoc Company is Jin Chen's younger brother's wife, and Jin Chen actually packed through SMIC Slipstream, Yu Wei and Ankang Zu, but in addition, he also remitted money to this' leather bag' company in the name of the above projects to enrich himself.
The whistleblower showed the reporter a copy of the US$ 35,080 invoice presented by Ensoc Company of the United States to the Chip and System Research Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University (the predecessor of the Microelectronics College of Shanghai Jiaotong University) on March 5, 2003 in the name of "being responsible for the testing, packaging and development system of Hanxin Edsp2 1600".
"This is my first written evidence to the media." The informant said.
Attached to this receipt is the Chinese and English copy of the cooperation agreement (hereinafter referred to as the cooperation agreement) between American ENSOCTechnologies and Shanghai Jiaotong University on the slicing and testing of Chinese cores, which was signed on June 5, 2002 (1 1). On the agreement, the legal representatives of Party A's "American ENSOC Technology Company" and Party B's "Chip and System Research Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University" were signed by Robb Inc. Liu and Liu, President of ENSOC Company, respectively stamped the "Chip and System Research Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University".
At the same time, the whistleblower produced an invoice issued by "Oriental Scientific Instruments Shanghai Import and Export Co., Ltd.". The invoice shows that the product specification is computer accessories; Foreign currency amount: USD 35,429,300; Exchange rate: 8.2849, quantity: 2; Unit price: 1464382 RMB; The amount of RMB is 293,687, 640 yuan. "Shanghai Oriental Scientific Instruments Import and Export Co., Ltd. is a company specializing in foreign exchange," according to an informant.
"Streaming and packaging through two companies is unreasonable." The informant said.
A senior official of NEC in Hua Hong also said: "A chip product is usually sealed or packaged only in one company, and will not be carried out separately."
However, they just said "usually"-did Hanxin-1 pass the ENSOC in the United States? If yes, where is the final product now?
According to the cooperation agreement, ENSOC is an enterprise founded in the United States by overseas students from China, and has strong strength in the design technology of DSP (Digital Signal Processor), CPU (Central Processing Unit) and SOC (System on Chip).
A professional technician from Taiwan Province's famous chip company, Convex-concave Technology China, told the reporter that the schematic layout of the chip was handed over to streamer service company, which cut the monocrystalline silicon tube into very thin pieces, laid metal wires on it, and carved it with laser according to the design schematic. This process is called "streamer".
He introduced that the core of chip design and development is schematic design. At present, the film production links are generally outsourced to professional film production companies, and there are standardized processes. "Whether it is possible to judge fraud lies not in the film company, but in the source of the principle design drawing".
According to the contract agreement, it was signed on June 5, 2002 165438+, and the press conference of "Hanxin No.1" was held in Shanghai Jinjiang Auditorium on February 26, 2003. According to this calculation, the maximum interval from the signing of ENSOC to the official release of Hanxin-1 is 1 13 days.
In this regard, the above-mentioned professional technicians said that 1 13 days is relatively short, but if a machine specializes in processing a chip at the fastest speed, it can still complete the slide process.
"However, it takes a long time to engrave the schematic diagram with laser, and there are usually bugs that need constant debugging and deployment." The technician introduced that his company usually needs to go through three versions of film, which usually takes about 180 days. "No company will release the first version directly."
Therefore, he estimated that 1 13 days could engrave at most two editions according to the schematic diagram. To judge whether Jin Chen is faking, it is necessary to test the products finally received by ENSOC from Jin Chen.
Because the contact number and fax number of the company are not left on the contract. Therefore, before the press release, the reporter could not contact the United States.
Ensoc company, to verify the specific identity of the relevant person in charge of its company.
At the same time, the other side of the incident-Jin Chen's mobile phone has been in a state of no answer.
Large chips and small chips
At this point, the focus of the problem has moved back to the scheme design of "Hanxin No.1".
That night, the whistleblower described what he judged as "Jin Chen's fraud": "First of all, because of Motorola's work experience, Jin Chen stole the source code of the DSP' 56800e' kernel from Motorola in the United States through various channels."
"In fact, Jin Chen told us himself," the reporter said.
"Second, in the second half of 2002, Jin Chen delivered its design drawings through SMIC." The reporter said that the sample obtained after this slide was "Big Chip".
"Because the' Big Chip' only has the kernel of dsp56800E, and there is no ip module for debugging interface, Jin Chen actually knows that the' Big Chip' can't be used and mass-produced, and it can't pass the inspection of the appraisal expert group." The whistleblower said: "During this period, Jin Chen began to plan to buy MOTO-freescale's' 56858 Chip'."
According to industry insiders, a dsp chip has only a kernel and no ip module with debugging interface, which is equivalent to a computer with only a host, no keyboard, mouse and related internal programs, so it can't "interact" and can't be used normally.
"Third, in August 2002, Jin Chen purchased 65,438+00 Moto-Freescale's' 56,858 Chip' from Freescale (formerly Motorola's semiconductor division, renamed Freescale in February 2004) through EMS air express."
The whistleblower said that Jin Chen himself had erased the word "moto". However, due to the obvious scratches, Jin Chen hired migrant workers to polish the surface of the chip for two days. Then, Jin Chen added "Hanxin" logo to it through AMKOR, and the final product obtained through these processes was called "small chip" by reporters. "
"I saw the polishing process of migrant workers." He said.
The whistleblower further claimed that another person, A, still in Hanxin's team, had seen a courier send an EMS to Jin Chen, and a few days ago, Jin Chen had arranged for A and other personnel to buy relevant polishing tools and hire migrant workers. "He witnessed and participated in these processes."
"The next job is to identify the expert group's test," the informant said. "But I don't know how this test process was completed, because Chen Jin used the' big chip' that flowed through SMIC during the test."
The whistleblower claimed that he was there a few hours before the test and saw Jin Chen take out a "big chip", but he left the scene during the subsequent test.
"In fact, because the trademarks and specifications of large and small chips are different, I have been very confused when I saw two chips displayed inside Jin Chen." The informant said.
Previously, Jin Chen said publicly that "Hanxin No.1" was a slipstream passing through SMIC and packaged in Yu Wei, without mentioning other companies.
"However, there are actually two companies responsible for the packaging of Hanxin No.1-Yu Wei and Ankao." The whistleblower said, "Yu Wei will package the' big chip' obtained through SMIC and label it' Hanxin No.1', while Amkor will be responsible for adding Hanxin logo to the chips polished by Jin Chen and migrant workers."
At the same time, he said, on February 26th, 2003, Jin Chen invited the Ministry of Science and Technology, Shanghai Municipal Government and colleagues to hold a press conference in Shanghai Jinjiang Auditorium to demonstrate "Hanxin No.1" with "small chips".
"There are public photos at the press conference, which can be verified." The informant said.
Silent experts and the mystery of mass production
Then, how did the members of the appraisal expert group complete the appraisal of the "big chip" of "Hanxin No.1"?
Unfortunately, almost all relevant experts have chosen silence.
Introduction to the homepage of School of Microelectronics, Jiaotong University: The appraisal expert group led by Wang Yangyuan, an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, agreed that "Hanxin-1" and its related design and application development platform were the first in China and reached the international advanced level, which was an important milestone in the history of chip development in China.
On the morning of October 25th, 65438/kloc-0, the reporter dialed the mobile phone of Wang Yangyuan, president of the Institute of Microelectronics of Peking University. A woman who claimed to be her assistant told her: "Due to poor health, Wang Yangyuan's family is on vacation in Sanya. It is estimated that I will not be able to return to Beijing when I start school on February 3. "
Yan Xiaolang, a professor at Zhejiang University, is another important member of the expert group. He is also the dean of the School of Electrical Engineering of Zhejiang University, the dean of the School of Information Engineering of Zhejiang University, and the leader of the National 863 Program Integrated Circuit Design Expert Group.
The reporter dialed Yan Xiaolang's mobile phone twice. He said: I was busy and couldn't talk, and then I hung up. As of press time, the reporter didn't get an e-mail reply from two other members of the appraisal expert group-Zou Shichang, an academician of China Academy of Sciences, and Xu Juyan, an academician of China Academy of Engineering.
In this way, mass production has become a possible way to infer whether Hanxin has independent intellectual property rights.
Regarding the international orders that "No.1" has received 654.38+0.5 billion yuan, the reporter asked: "If these international orders of 654.38+0.5 billion yuan are true, will Chen disclose the issuers of these orders, as well as the delivery list, invoices and other evidence of" No.1 "to the public?"
But before the press release, Jin Chen had been in a state of silence-from noon on 24th to 9: 00pm, the reporter had been trying to wait at the 7th floor of Haoran High-tech Building where the School of Microelectronics of Shanghai Jiaotong University was located, but no one was seen. At the same time, Jin Chen's cell phone was never answered. & lt
