Discuss the design of web pages, such as the realization of design inspiration, style It is rare to find articles on the determination, development strategies, technology selection, etc. I believe this article will definitely inspire website designers.
Foreword
I am honored to be able to discuss issues about website design with you here. At present, there are quite a lot of various tutorials on web page production on the Internet, and you can easily learn the latest technologies and techniques. However, there are relatively few articles about web design, such as the realization of design inspiration, determination of style, development strategy, technology selection, etc. Many netizens often have good materials, but are troubled by the lack of good expressive design. Ajie has sorted out some web design experiences and would like to share them with you here, which can be regarded as a good introduction to others. I hope to get your corrections. If you have good suggestions and experiences, please also communicate with me (ajie@soim.com). Thank you in advance!
Website design contains a lot of content. It is roughly divided into two aspects:
On the one hand, it is purely the design of the website itself, such as text layout, picture production, graphic design, three-dimensional design, static silent graphics and text, dynamic audio images, etc.;
< p> On the other hand, it is the extended design of the website, including the theme positioning of the website and the positioning of the browsing group, intelligent interaction, production planning, image packaging, publicity and marketing, etc. These two aspects complement each other (it feels a bit like writing a dialectical essay:), coupled with the rapid development of network technology, it is impossible to put forward an absolutely correct and authoritative design idea. It is also difficult to summarize, so based on the idea of ??building a website, Ajie compiled his experience in website design and production over the past few years into a series of "lectures" and told them to everyone (note: I will not talk about a certain technology in detail. Or production skills, the focus is on ideas) I hope it can give you some help. The following is a rough outline:

19. Suggestions for beginners in website design
The above is the outline of this "series" of articles , some changes will be made based on the actual writing situation. Before we begin, let us first clarify a few premises:
1. Website design and website production. We talk about website "design" rather than website "production". The difference between them is that design is a thinking process, while production only expresses the results of thinking. A successful website first requires an excellent design, and then is supplemented by excellent production. Design is the core and soul of a website, and the same design can be expressed in multiple ways.
2. The "website" we refer to refers to a practical website with a definite theme and clear purpose, and does not include pure performance or pure text websites.
3. In the article, you may give examples or comment on specific sites.
Position your website theme and name
When designing a site, the first problem you encounter is positioning the website theme.
The so-called theme is the theme of your website. There are a wide variety of websites on the Internet with all kinds of strange themes. If you can think of it, you can make it. The following are the ten categories of the top 100 well-known websites in the United States in 1999 selected by the US "PC Magazine" (PC Magazine), which have some reference value for us.
Category 1: Online job hunting
Category 2: Online chat/instant messaging/ICQ
Category 3: online community/discussion/mailing list< /p>
Category 4: Computer Technology
Category 5: Web/Website Development
Category 6: Entertainment Website
Category 7 : Travel
Category 8: Reference/Information
Category 9: Family/Education
Category 10: Lifestyle/Fashion
Each major category can be further subdivided. For example, the entertainment category can be further divided into sports/movie/music categories. Music can be further divided into MP3, VQF, Ra according to the format, and classical, modern, rock, etc. according to the expression form. The above are just the most common themes. There are many professional, alternative and unique themes to choose from, such as traditional Chinese medicine, tropical fish, weather forecasts, etc. At the same time, the connection and cross-combination of various themes can produce new themes, such as tourism. Forum (travel + discussion), classic goal broadcast (football + film and television) divided in this way, there can be thousands of themes, you will no longer worry about repeated themes and difficulty in choosing:)
Regarding the choice of theme, my suggestions are:
1. The theme should be small and precise. The positioning should be small and the content should be precise. If you want to make an all-inclusive site and put all the things you think are wonderful on it, it will often backfire. It will give people the feeling that there is no theme, no features, everything is there but everything is superficial, because you don’t There may be so much energy to maintain it. The biggest feature of the Internet is that it is new and fast. Currently, the most popular personal homepages are updated every day or even every few hours. The latest survey results also show that "theme sites" on the Internet are more popular than "universal sites", just like specialty stores and department stores. If I need to buy something in a certain area, I will definitely choose a specialty store. For another example, one of my netizens, KK, hopes to create literary themes, but literature also includes many, many contents, including novels, poetry, and prose; science fiction, martial arts, and reasoning; Ajie carefully understood what he was good at and what he wanted to do. The main content to be provided, and finally the subject matter was positioned on Internet literature, some original irrelevant literary works were deleted, and the Internet literature was expanded and organized. After the website was launched, it quickly became popular with everyone.
2. The subject matter should be something you are good at or like. For example: if you are good at programming, you can build a website for programming enthusiasts; if you are interested in football, you can report on the latest battle results, star dynamics, etc. This way you won't feel bored or overwhelmed when making it. Interest is the driving force for making websites. Without passion, it is difficult to design and produce outstanding works.
3. Don’t use too many themes or too high goals. "Too excessive" refers to topics that can be seen everywhere and are available to everyone; such as software downloads and free information. "Aiming too high" means that there are already very good and well-known sites in this topic, and it is very difficult for you to surpass them. Unless you are determined and capable to compete and surpass it, remember, there is only the first on the Internet, and people tend to only remember the best websites, and the impression of the second and third places will be much lighter.
OK, if you already have a great idea, let’s start naming the website. You may think that naming has nothing to do with website design, and Ajie is wasting his time here. In fact, the website name is also a part of the website design, and it is a very critical element. If you look at it, "Computer Learning Room" and "Computer Home" are obviously the latter and concise; "Midi Paradise" and "MIDI Paradise" are obviously the latter and clear; "Children's World" and "China Kindergarten" are obviously the latter atmosphere. We all know that the Chinese name of PIICUP is "Pentium". If it were changed to "Pentium", it might not be as "popular" as it is today :). Just like in real life, whether the website name is upright, loud, and easy to remember will also have a great impact on the website's image and promotion. The general suggestions are:
1. The name should be correct. This "righteousness" is Ajie's own way of saying it. In fact, it means being legal, reasonable, and harmonious. Do not use reactionary, pornographic, superstitious, nouns or sentences that endanger social security.
2. The name should be easy to remember. According to the characteristics of Chinese website visitors, unless there is a specific need, it is best to use a Chinese name for the website name, and do not use an English or a mixed name of Chinese and English. For example: beyond studio and beyond studio, the latter is more familiar and easier to remember. In addition, the number of characters in the website name should be controlled within six characters (preferably four characters), such as "XX Pavilion" and "XX Design Studio". Four-character characters can be used in idioms, such as "One-stop scoring". There is another advantage to having fewer words. Generally, the size of a small logo for friendly links is 88X31, and the width of six characters is about 78, which is suitable for link layout on other sites.
3. The name should be distinctive. If the name is plain, it is acceptable. If it can reflect a certain connotation and give the viewer more visual impact and spatial imagination, it will be of high quality.
Here are a few names that Ajie thinks are good: music avant-garde, web page Taoba, and the sound of nature. While reflecting the theme of the website, it can highlight its features.
In short, positioning the theme and name is the first step in designing a website, and it is also a very important part. It's worth spending a day looking through a dictionary if you can find a name you're happy with.
