Life experience: Inspired by China, I entered the Physics Department of China University of Science and Technology on 1962, and was deeply influenced by senior physicists and money. I am not only interested in the basic problems of relativity and quantum mechanics, but also thinking repeatedly about the historical reasons why modern China lags behind the West.
From 65438 to 0973, when I was a worker in chengdu-kunming railway, I read the paper Evolutionary Thermodynamics published by Prigo King Kong in my spare time, which became a bridge between biology and physics. After studying abroad, I joined the Austin School in Brussels led by 198 1 Prigogine, with the goal of bridging the gap between economics and physics. Our tools are nonlinear dynamics and non-equilibrium statistical physics, and the starting point of research is the "long-standing problem" of mainstream economics-division of labor mechanism and economic cycle.
I once asked my doctoral supervisor I.llyaPrigogine, a Belgian-born Russian physicist, why he remained interested in interdisciplinary research for life. He told me that he was born in Russia during the October Revolution and then went into exile in Western Europe with his family. The experience of revolution and war made him deeply feel that world history is unbalanced, uncertain and irreversible.
His scientific interests are physics and his hobbies are history and anthropology. What puzzles him is that both Newtonian mechanics and quantum mechanics are time symmetric (abstract expression of reversible process in physics), which contradicts the history he observed. The origin of the arrow of time has become a scientific problem that he has been thinking about all his life. Because I.llyaPrigogine couldn't choose between physics and history, he used physical methods to study history and created non-equilibrium physics.
My own experience is similar to Prigogine's. I have been a student and colleague in I.llyaPrigogine for more than 20 years, and I have the honor to participate in the basic research of complex system science and open up a new field of economic complexity.
