How to go abroad

Some issues you should pay attention to when going abroad

1. Reasons for going abroad and passport. The reasons for citizens to go abroad for private matters refer to: settling down, visiting relatives, visiting friends, studying abroad, employment, tourism and engaging in business and other non-official activities. Although the reasons are different, the passports applied for and obtained are the same. The difference between various reasons is only reflected in the reason for departure on the exit registration card. Except for those who want to settle abroad, all other reasons for leaving the country must be marked as "short-term departure". In other words, "short-term overseas travel" represents all reasons such as visiting relatives, visiting friends, studying abroad, employment, tourism and business activities. For this reason, terms such as "study passport", "travel passport" and "business passport" are inaccurate.

By the way, the passport is valid for 5 years and can be extended twice for 5 years each time. While holding your passport, you should always pay attention to its validity period. Even if you leave or enter the country with a passport that has expired for one day, you will be mercilessly blocked by border inspection personnel.

2. Time to apply for a passport. When applying for a passport, it takes 14 working days, except for special emergencies where you can apply for expedited procedures of 5 working days. 14 working days, the actual time may be about 20 days. Some applicants may feel that 20 days is too long or that it is too expensive to apply for a passport because they have not planned in advance. In fact, it can be convenient and quick by following the following methods. First, go to the Exit and Entry Administration Office of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau at No. 2 Andingmen East Street, Dongcheng District, on Saturday or noon to handle entry and exit procedures. Second, pick up the application form and application instructions at the Exit and Entry Administration Department of the Public Security Bureau and more than 300 household registration police stations. For those who live in Yanqing, Miyun and other places, it may only take dozens of minutes to collect the application form nearby, while it may take several hours or even a day to go to the Exit-Entry Administration Office of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau. Third, prepare in advance. Traveling abroad requires a certificate of deposit in international currency equivalent to US$4,000 in the applicant's name. If you don’t have proof of foreign exchange deposits, you can still join an overseas tour group organized by a travel agency. Therefore, if you have saved money or prepared the expenses for traveling abroad, you will have the conditions to apply for a passport for traveling abroad. If you want to travel abroad on New Year's Day, Spring Festival, May Day and National Day, you can apply a few months in advance and then apply for a visa. You will have plenty of time and don't have to rush when the time comes. Moreover, by staggering the peak period, when applying, you can also save time waiting in line or being unable to travel due to limited tour group quotas. This is true for traveling abroad, and you can also prepare early for studying abroad. One of the necessary conditions for studying abroad is to have a considerable amount of foreign exchange so that you can apply for a passport first. Because the start date is not clearly stated on the Admission Notice, you cannot apply for expedited procedures. The conditions for expediting application for studying abroad are "the semester starts in less than one month."

3. Photo specifications. At the corresponding position on the application form, you need to affix a recent straight-sided frontal ID photo without a hat. Photos should be on glossy photo paper, with a white or light blue background (when wearing white clothing, the background must be light blue). Public officials do not wear standard clothing, and children do not wear red scarves. One-time snapshots, reprinted photos, or photos printed from a color printer do not meet the specifications.

After submitting the application form, you need to take a special passport photo in the reception hall with the "Application Receipt for Private Exit Document" and your ID card. For this reason, applicants should pay attention to the clothing and appearance they wear when applying. Otherwise, you have to go back and forth to change clothes or get a haircut. In addition, passport photos taken in the reception hall cannot be provided to applicants.

4. Fill in the application form. The application form must be filled out using black or blue-black ink. The use of sky blue, green or red ink is prohibited. The handwriting on the application form must be clear and neat, and no alteration is allowed.

5. Translation of foreign language materials. Depending on the reason for going abroad, corresponding supporting materials need to be submitted. The certification materials are valid for 6 months from the date of issuance. If it is in a foreign language, it must be translated into Chinese by a designated translation company. The designated translation companies are: Beijing Shuangxiong Foreign Service Company (Address: No. 3, Andingmen East Street, Dongcheng District, Tel: 64054040), Beijing Foreign Language Translation Service Company (Address: No. 48, New Taicang Lane 1, Beixinqiao, Dongcheng District, Tel: 64049368), China International Translation and Publishing Company (Address: No. 4 Taipingqiao Street, Xicheng District, Tel: 66168353), Radio International Translation and Liaison Department (Address: No. 2 Fuxingmenwai Street, Xicheng District, Tel: 66092931).

6. Never engage in fraud. According to the relevant provisions of the "Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People's Republic of China" and its "Implementation Rules", those who fabricate information, provide false certificates, or use bribery to obtain exit and entry documents will be punished by the public security organs. The types of punishment include warning, detention and criminal liability. To this end, applicants must seek truth from facts when filling out the application form and submitting relevant supporting materials and must not commit fraud. Don't take chances, because fake things can't be true after all. Of course, those who have certain "signature and seal" rights must cherish their rights and not issue illegal certification materials due to the temptation of worldly feelings and money.

7. Study abroad must be handled through legal intermediaries.

In order to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of citizens entering and leaving the country, the public security organs cooperate with the education department, industrial and commercial administration, labor and social security departments to continuously carry out activities to ban illegal intermediaries and crack down on illegal intermediary activities. However, there are still some institutions or individuals that illegally set up entry-exit intermediary agencies to engage in entry-exit intermediary activities in order to obtain high economic benefits, and take advantage of others to study abroad to charge high fees or defraud money. Therefore, those who study abroad must enhance their legal awareness and self-protection awareness, contact legal intermediaries to understand whether the undertaking institution has a business license, whether the procedures are legal, whether the fees are reasonable, and sign a valid contract with the intermediary agency . In this way, once rights and interests are infringed, compensation can be obtained through legal channels. If you are deceived through an illegal intermediary, don't just cry without tears. You should actively report the situation to the relevant departments to prevent others from making the same mistake again.
