Transportation articles

Intercity transportation

1. Airplane. There is an airport bus from Gaoqi Airport to the city, which costs about 20 yuan. Very convenient. You can also take the road around the island and enjoy the scenery along the way.

2. High-speed rail. There are two stations in Xiamen, one is Xiamen North and the other is Xiamen Station. Xiamen North is outside the island and has a direct tourist train to the city. It's more convenient to stop in Xiamen on the island.

Urban transportation

1. Public transportation. You can scan the s code on Alipay or follow the official WeChat account to scan the s code.

2. Bus rapid transit system. Xiamen’s BRT is quite special. It is not the same price as buses and does not have dedicated lanes. Some BRT fares are 6-7 yuan, and some BRT fares are 15 yuan, which is relatively expensive, so if there are too many people, it is best to take a taxi.

3. Bicycle. There are many bicycles near the Huandao Road. There are special bicycle lanes on the Huandao Road. You can ride a bicycle to explore the Huandao Road. Driving in the opposite direction on the roundabout, without police control, may be allowed by default.

4. Take a taxi. Try to get a taxi and ask for a taxi or a promotion. Many taxis stop on the side of the road, ask you where you want to go, and then recommend where to go. After tourists feel comfortable, they will find a travel agency for you, and then the travel agency will provide a one-day charter flight program.

5. Subway. Xiamen Metro Line 1 is famous for having a section across the sea, just like Spirited Away. If you go to North Railway Station, you can choose to take Line 1 to experience the feeling of crossing the sea. If you want to see the subway crossing the sea, you can watch it on the Xiamen Bridge.

Accommodation Supplies

Let’s talk about homestays in Xiamen. There are several gathering places, one is Zengcuo Village, the second is Huangcuo, and the third is Gulangyu Island.

Zengcuo_ Village has convenient transportation, direct access to the airport bus, and many B&Bs. However, the B&B here cannot see the sea and may be a bit noisy at night. The price is not expensive either.

Huangcuo, there is a beach outside, but it is far from the scenic spots.

Gulangyu Island, the poster even suggested staying one night on Gulangyu Island, if the trip is not urgent. Gulangyu Island has the best environment, unlike Zengcuo_ Village which is a commercial area. The prices on Gulangyu Island will be more expensive.

There is one drawback to American homestays in Xiamen. They rarely bring breakfast. I don’t know if it has something to do with their living habits. The author likes the B&Bs in Hangzhou very much. One of the things is that most B&Bs in Hangzhou come with breakfast, which is delicious and expensive.

Food

First of all, Xiamen food is not to everyone’s taste. The author prefers the taste of Southwest or Hangzhou cuisine, but is not used to eating it in Xiamen. I heard before that there are many snacks in Xiamen, which are very similar to the night markets in Taiwan. After arriving, I discovered that only night markets in Taiwan have a formal format, and the food can’t be compared with night markets in Taiwan.

Xiamen's snacks are concentrated in Zengcuo Village, but Zengcuo Village can only say that its signboard is very similar to Taiwan's night market. There are not as many types of snacks as in Taiwan, and the prices are quite high, making them very commercial. Furthermore, there is serious homogeneity, and most of them are chain stores. Take this store called Ai Su as an example. I have seen them in Nanluoguxiang in Beijing, Hefang Street in Hangzhou and Zengcuo Village in Xiamen. I don't know which are the real Xiamen specialties. There are too many online celebrity shops selling handmade nougat and snowflake cakes, which may become standard features in old streets in the city.

The snacks in Zengcuo Village mainly include shrimp and eggs, fried oysters, satay noodles, peanut soup, Aiyu lemon ice, fried skewers, fruits, etc.

Mark's Potato Toast

This potato toast tastes good. Mashed potatoes wrapped in bread crumbs and fried in oil. Then, top it with cucumber, corn bacon, and cheese sauce, which is a bit like Taiwanese snacks. I don’t have Idon’t and I can’t see any other delicious snacks. I tasted the Internet celebrity shrimp and egg, which was very ordinary and tasteless.

Satay noodles

Satay noodles are a famous snack in Xiamen. Because it was raining, I didn’t want to go to the most famous satay noodles in the city. I picked one and tasted it. It's not neither bad nor delicious.

The soup is average and the toppings are barely passable. Signature Sat

Peanut soup is also a famous snack in Xiamen. I wonder if this store doesn't sell it. I'm not doing well. Peanut soup is too sweet.

Seafood Fried Noodles

Seafood Fried Noodles is the most satisfying food I have ever eaten. Often served as breakfast in Xiamen. The fried noodles are also randomly selected at a restaurant. They actually taste pretty good and are worth a try.

Fried oysters

Xiamen people say that their oyster omelets are different from those in Taiwan. I can't tell the difference. If you can get used to seafood, this oyster omelette tastes good, mainly because the egg is fried at a better temperature.

Fire ginseng fruit

There are really a lot of fruits in Xiamen. This kind of ginseng fruit has never been seen before. I tasted it out of curiosity. It tastes sweet and sour, very fresh. In addition, there are a lot of lotus trees in Xiamen. Many people say that lotus mist is the queen of fruits, but to be honest, lotus mist is really not that delicious, far from mangosteen. 10 yuan buys a cup of mango from Zengcuo Village. It's still a good deal.

Seabird's Nest

This seabird's nest was not bought in Zengcuo_ Village, but in Gulangyu Island. It tastes like Ai Yuzi or Cao Xian, which is ok. I haven't had it before so I gave it a try.

Scenic Areas

The main attractions in Xiamen are all on the island. The island is not big and the attractions are limited. You can complete the tour in three to four days.

Road around the island

The road around the island is very long, and the essence is in the south. If you choose to walk, you can only cover short distances. The best way is by bike. Here you can rent bicycles for two or three people. The American seaside in Xiamen is very beautiful and has many beaches. Near Huangcuotan, opposite Kinmen, there is a statue of Mazu. It is said that the mayor of Xiamen spent more than two hours organizing a tour to Kinmen. On the roadside opposite the beach, there is a large sign One Country, Two Systems Unifying China, directly facing Kinmen Island.

Mazu Statue

It is said that the face of the Mazu statue is black because fishermen used to catch black pearls on the seashore.

Zeng Cuanan

Zeng Cuo_ Village is mainly commercial and B&B. It gets very lively at night and there are still many shops closed. The door doesn't open at 9 o'clock. Morning clock. Here we mainly eat snacks and shop. If you can stop by and hang out here, if you don’t stay here, it’s more appropriate to come in the evening and go back in the evening.

Xiamen University

It is really difficult to get into Xiamen University now. It opens only once every day at 12:30 noon. You have to make an appointment in advance on the WeChat official account of Xiamen University. It is said that the reservation ends as soon as it is posted.

If you don’t have a reservation, there are two ways. One is to pick people up inside, and the poster just happened to choose this way, and Little Thigh went in; first, find scalpers, they can take people in by car, and it only costs a few dozen yuan.

The Lotus Tunnel is said to be beautiful and artistic, but the photos taken must be edited, because the graffiti on the wall are all written by tourists, which has no sense of beauty and affects not only yourself but also others.

Dormitory building

Passing by the dormitory building, I thought it looked beautiful outside. In fact, living in the dormitory was very uncomfortable because it was very humid.

Administrative Office Building

Xiamen University is very large. If you walk on your own, you may get lost or take detours. It's best if you have a friend who can take you there. You can have a good look around the school and then go inside.

Xiamen University is located near mountains and sea. The campus buildings are very unique and the scenery is beautiful. I am very happy to go to school here, but the dormitory building is relatively humid, and I can't adapt to it as a northerner.

Nanputuo Temple

Just outside Xiamen University is Nanputuo Temple. You can arrange to play together. I don't know if it's because Xiamen people are very Buddhist. The incense at Nanputuo Temple is very popular, but I don’t need a ticket. This is the first time the poster has encountered that I don’t need a ticket.

Botanical Garden

One of the highlights of the Botanical Garden is the water spray show, which is only open on sunny days. So, if you want to come to the botanical garden, be sure to come on a sunny day. The author happened to catch up with the rainy day and was unable to go to the botanical garden. The Botanical Garden is on the mountain of Xiamen University.

You can put the Botanical Garden, Xiamen University, and Nanputuo Temple on a one-day trip.

Gulangyu Island/Gulangyu Island

Gulangyu Island is the most expensive attraction in Xiamen, and of course the most fun place. You need to take a ferry to Gulangyu Island. On the island, you usually get on the boat from Guxia Pier and you can reach Gulangyu Island in 20 minutes. Tickets to Gulangyu Island must be purchased in advance. There is a limit on the number of people on Gulangyu Island every day, and one ticket is a round-trip ticket. When you go there, you can only take the boat you bought at the time. You can take any boat or dock of your choice for the return trip, or you can stay on the island for a few days and then come back. When returning, go to the pier opposite Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street, so that you can walk directly around Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street at night. But when we return at night, there are many people going to this pier and we have to queue up.

1. If you buy an early ticket, the bus to Xiamen Gulou Pier in the morning is relatively slow, and the earliest BRT bus is at 7:30. Sometimes you can only take Xiaohei Bus, which is about the same price as BRT.

2. If you buy a ferry ticket, you will be prompted to check in one hour in advance. Not really. This is not peak time. There is absolutely no need to go an hour early. However, there are advantages to going early. For the morning boat, you can queue up early to check in, and you can grab a sightseeing spot on the second floor. If you don’t mind if there are sightseeing spots, there is no need to go so early.

Several attractions on Gulangyu Island are charged. If you don't you don't want to see any sights, do you? I don't have to buy a ticket. Tickets can be purchased for individual attractions or combined tickets. The combined ticket is about 20 yuan cheaper than purchasing a single attraction.

I recommend buying a joint ticket. Among these attractions, Sunlight Rock, Guzhuang Garden and Haoyue Garden are all worth seeing. Sun Rock is the highest point on the island, overlooking the entire island and Xiamen Island. Xinzhuang Garden is a garden built on the seaside. It combines Chinese and Western architecture, using sea water and rocks to create gardens. The scenery is very good. There is a statue of Zheng Chenggong in Hao Yue Garden. There are several beaches on Gulangyu Island where you can do some water sports.

Personally, I think the best time to travel to Xiamen is after May Day, when there are fewer tourists and the weather is not too cold. Different tourists have different impressions of Xiamen. People who have lived by the sea for a long time will not be so excited when they see the sea. They are more willing to spend time looking at Xiamen's architecture and feel the exquisiteness of Xiamen. For inland visitors who have never seen the sea, they may prefer to spend time playing on the beach. Therefore, it is best to arrange your itinerary according to your actual situation. Checking in blindly can make traveling boring.

As for what you need to bring, it’s the same as what you usually bring when you go out, nothing special. Just bring mosquito repellent and sunscreen.
