In the eyes of the world, sweeping the floor may not be considered a noble job. Some people are self-righteous and even look down on sanitation workers who specialize in sweeping floors, thinking it is a lowly profession.
Buddhist Pure Land has a different view on sweeping the floor. Almost every monk has swept the floor, and they sweep the floor often. After all, the inside and outside of the temple are cleaner than the world of mortals. Sweeping the floor clean is a kind of practice in itself.
Therefore, many believers will go to the temple to clean the temple on the Buddha's birthday or the first and fifteenth day of the lunar month, so that the Buddhist temple looks more solemn, solemn and sacred. Whether they are Buddhist believers or tourists, they all respect the clean Buddhism.
In order to set an example for Buddhist disciples, Lord Buddha once swept the floor himself. "Vinaiya Miscellaneous Affairs" records: The World Honored One was in the forest in the past, and saw that the ground was impure. He wanted to make those happy beings live in a holy field, and he personally held a broom and swept the forest. At that time, Sariputta, Maha Moggallana, Maha Kashyapa, Ananda and other great great voices heard this, and when they saw what had happened, they all took broomsticks to sweep the garden. At that time, the Buddha, the World-Honored One, and his holy disciples had finished cleaning up and entered the dining hall and took their seats. The Buddha told all the monks that there are five victories for those who sweep the floor: "What are the five? One is to purify one's own mind, the other is to make others pure, the third is to make the heavens happy, the fourth is to cultivate justice, and the fifth is to live in peace after death. "Be born in heaven."
"What are the five? One is to make one's own heart pure, the other is to make other people's hearts pure, the third is to make the heavens happy, the fourth is to be righteous, and the fifth is to be reborn in heaven after death. ."
That's it. Since sweeping the floor has these "five virtues",
so Buddhists regard sweeping the floor, wiping the table, and tidying up the sutra hall as part of their practice.
As for ordinary people, it is a different matter. Let’s not talk about the many merits of sweeping the floor, but when the dirt and dust are all over the floor, everyone steps up to clean it, which can indeed make people feel comfortable and relaxed in a clean environment.
Sakyamuni Buddha had a disciple, Zhouli Pantaka. After he became a monk, Sakyamuni Buddha told him the four words "sweeping dust and removing dirt". He learned it for three months. He couldn't remember it, but in the end he was able to realize it. The Buddha prophesied to him that among all his sravaka disciples, Zhou Ripanthaka was the one who had the most extraordinary ability to change his mind. He would sweep the floor every day until the end, and the Buddha gave him this prophecy.
Why did he have such an achievement in sweeping the floor? He was able to practice it seriously according to the Buddha's teachings and teachings. The Buddha said to him: "This dust is greed, not dust. This dust is greed for fame, not dust. All wise men will get rid of this dust. We will not let go in the teachings of the Tathagata." When we sweep around, we are all trying to sweep away these dust in our hearts. ——The dust of greed, the dust of anger, and the dust of delusion are the garbage of the three poisons.
So those who practice Buddhism are just like sweeping the floor. They must clean their hearts carefully and remove greed, hatred, and ignorance. Only then can they truly practice.
Sweep the floor, sweep the floor, and sweep the heart. Sweep the floor if the heart is not swept. If everyone sweeps away his mind, all ignorance and troubles will be far away.
Sweep the floor, sweep the floor, sweep the heart, but sweep the floor if the heart is not swept. If everyone sweeps away his heart, the mountains will become flat.
Sweep the floor, sweep the floor, sweep the heart, but sweep the floor if the heart is not swept. If everyone sweeps away their hearts, the world will become a pure place.
Sweep the floor, sweep the floor, sweep the heart, but sweep the floor if the heart is not swept. If everyone sweeps away his heart, the lotus blossoms will be happy.
