For a long time, Austria has had top-notch small arms like its music. The SSG69 sniper rifle used by the Austrian police is an example.
The SSG69 is a non-automatic weapon. Almost all metal parts of the gun have been darkened to make it easy to conceal. It is also known as the Green Gun because it is often painted in green camouflage. Its forged barrel is cold forged. The cold forging process improves the smoothness, dimensional accuracy, and surface strength of the barrel's inner bore, prolongs the life of the barrel, and improves the gun's shooting accuracy accordingly. The 650 mm long barrel is completely floating on the gun stock, that is, it is only connected to the barrel sleeve and has no contact points with the handguard. Using an extended receiver, the length of the barrel seat reaches 51 mm, making the barrel The combination with the receiver is very strong, so the shooting accuracy can be greatly improved. The gun is manually loaded, equipped with a 5-round rotating magazine, and the locking method is a rotary bolt. The gun is available in two calibers and can fire 7.62mm NATO bullets or 6.0×53mm Winchester bullets. The barrel of the gun is only connected to the joint sleeve and has no contact points with the handguard. This structure is called a floating barrel, which is beneficial to improving shooting accuracy. The SSG69 can hit a coin at 100 meters, a head target at 500 meters, and a chest ring target at 800 meters. It can be seen that its accuracy is high.
SSG69 is equipped with 7.62mm NATO high-power bullets, which can already achieve very high accuracy. If other special ammunition is used, the accuracy will be even higher. An American FBI sniper school instructor used SSG69 to fire homemade ammunition and penetrated the center of a bullet case at a distance of 50 meters. The accuracy was as high as nailing a nail on a board. There are also people who have just learned shooting skills who use the SSG69 sniper rifle to hit a moving target 800 meters away, and can achieve a hit rate of 80%. No wonder some Austrian shooters describe it as a "precision-guided weapon mounted on an ox cart."
