The reason why people are afraid of itching
British female scientist blakemore solved the mystery and found that the human cerebellum was at work:
Blakemore conducted an experiment on six volunteers at the University of London. She first scratched the palm of the subject with a machine and recorded the changes of brain current with a magnetic vibrator. Then she let the subjects tickle themselves and recorded the changes of brain current. It turns out that when people tickle themselves, their cerebellum sends a signal telling other parts of the brain not to respond to this stimulus. However, when being tickled by others, even if people know in advance, the cerebellum will not send out warning signals, and the brain will respond immediately to external stimuli, and people will feel particularly itchy.
Feelings such as itching, pain and numbness are actually a storage format of the human brain for external stimuli. The brain can respond differently to different stimuli according to the above classification, thus avoiding greater harm to the human body.
People have two itchy feelings.
One kind: it is the itching sensation that something similar to a bug crawls gently on the skin, such as ears, nostrils, palms and soles of feet, which are extremely sensitive to this itching sensation;
The other: it is caused by strong scratching on a certain part of the body, such as the armpit of the upper limb, which is most likely to produce this itchy feeling. Some people think that this is caused by itchy receptors in the skin. Receptors are special nerve endings that transmit information to the spinal cord and brain. When the brain nerve receives this itchy information, it will make some kind of reflex behavior to offset this itching. If the degree of itching is very light, it will disappear after a few scratches; If the itching is strong, you can often laugh or take the initiative to avoid it.
Itchy reflex has been produced in early humans. In the process of fighting for survival or fleeing from wild animals, primitive humans formed a rapid response system to external things, and itching was one of them. People with good itch reflex become the best survivors in nature, while those who do not respond to itching are gradually eliminated. Of course, now people itch has lost its ancient function and significance.
Skin is wrapped on the surface of our body, which not only protects us from external harm, keeps the humidity in the body, and regulates the body temperature. It is also very important for us to perceive the changes in the external environment, such as temperature changes, cold, heat, burns, wind direction, peer touch, wound pain, material texture and so on. Therefore, the epidermis or dermis of the skin is densely covered with various sensory receptors, such as pain receptors.
Of course, it is also connected with many neural networks, which makes our skin very sharp. Usually, sensory receptors are located at the end of nerves, so they are particularly sensitive where nerve endings gather; This is the case with our armpits or other ticklish parts. But scientists have not found the so-called "itch receptor". Why do people feel itchy? Or laugh uncontrollably when tickled? In fact, scientists have not come to a very consistent conclusion. Some people think that itching is actually a kind of "slight pain", which is the result of slight stimulation of pain receptors. Others think that there must be "itch receptors" in skin tissue, but we haven't found them yet. Some people think that itching is actually similar to the alert reflex mechanism left by human beings after a long evolutionary process. Some people are more ticklish than you. It may be that the skin in this area has different sensitivity to itching (such as sparse nerve distribution), or that the individual brain has different perception of itching.
Itching is related to psychological factors. When you tickle yourself in the shower, even if you encounter sensitive areas, the brain's excitement about itching is reduced because of psychological preparation; When the brain thinks it exists. Teasing? Oneself, don't you need to guard against peace? Afraid? I don't feel itchy when I'm young.
But people do itch. Usually, our armpits, groin, soles and other places are most sensitive to itching. The reason is that all these places belong to? Non-exposed area? Usually, there are fewer chances of being scratched and stimulated, and the skin receptors in these parts are rich and combined, so the feeling of itching is much sharper. But some are the most ticklish, followed by armpits and soles.
Some people in the United States tickled 500 people and children with feathers and cotton, and found that nearly half of them were ticklish. According to the survey, newborns are not ticklish at all, and those around 4 years old are the most ticklish, and those with rich feelings are even more ticklish.
Ticklish and ticklish people
An interesting study made by American physiologists recently: Up to 99.8% of people have been ticklish, and almost no one is absolutely ticklish.
Interesting tickling experiment
However, people are ticklish? Degree? It seems to be closely related to age, gender and personality. Ever? Tickle experiment? Scientists divided 100 children under 00 years old, 100 elderly people over 65 years old, young men and young women into four groups. Results: The proportion of ticklish people in each group was 93% for children, 35% for the elderly, 65% for men and 94% for women. That is to say, women are generally more ticklish than men, and what about the elderly? Does it itch? Not as good as children? Sensitive? . Besides, maybe next time? Tickle experiment? Explain that extroverted personality is high 1 times!
People who are ticklish are very sensitive.
Being ticklish is not a bad thing. On the contrary, it means that you have a sensitive nervous system. In fact, what about people with nervous system problems (such as neurasthenia and psychological depression)? Does it itch? Often far less sensitive than normal people, serious or even indifferent to other people's tickling. Second,? Itching, a healthy physiological instinct, can also protect your body from infringement. For example, if there is a bug sneaking into the ear canal, a strange itchy feeling is like an alarm to remind you that there is? Foreign invasion? . Besides, being ticklish means you are happy and relaxed? You know, it's hard to laugh when you're worried!
People who are ticklish have rich feelings.
Interestingly, a study conducted by American psychologists and physiologists also confirmed this point? Does it itch? Maybe even love? People who are ticklish are often emotional and often take the initiative when they are in love; On the contrary, people who are not ticklish often do. Fade down? Sweet love, some even have no interest in love. In addition, experts also found that among those who are ticklish, helpful people account for a high proportion; Comparatively speaking, people who are not ticklish tend to be indifferent to others. Enthusiastic person? Especially less.
See why people are ticklish, and see:
1. Why are people ticklish?
2. Why do people die
