There are three descriptions of Wei Yan's character in The Romance of the Three Kingdoms:
One is straightforward. The forty-first time, Wei Yan and Liu Bei had never met, but he was wishful thinking to "chop down the gatekeeper, open the gate and put down the suspension bridge" and shouted "Liu Huangshu quickly led the troops into the city and killed the traitor!" In the 43rd session, it was even more straightforward and almost rude. First, "swing a knife in, cut down the knife hand and save Huang Zhong." Later, he "went straight to the head of the city, cut Han Xuan in two with one knife, raised his head and mounted his horse, and led the people out of the city to Yunchang." Whether others appreciate it or not, as long as I see your loyalty, I will give you my heart. This is Wei Yan's style of doing things. On the matter of killing Han Xuan and offering Changsha, Huang Zhong absolutely disapproves of doing so. Wei Yan didn't care about that, so he cut Han Xuan down when he came up. Huang Zhong and Wei Yan are very different in "killing the Lord and offering the land", and their reactions are very reserved and steady. First Guan Yu invited him to meet him, and then Liu Bei "invited him to Huang Zhong's house, loyal to the party and asked Han Xuan's body to be buried in the east of Changsha", which was "very loyal". Wei Yan thought he was a coolie, but he was knocked down and beheaded by Kong Ming, and made a prediction that "Wei Yan's brain is rebellious and will be rebellious after a long time." Zhuge Liang was startled by Wei Yan as soon as he met him. Wei Yan saved Huang Zhong, offered the city to Guan Yu, and Liu Bei, who met each other after a brief encounter, were all wishful thinking, which was the concentrated expression of his straightforward personality.
Second, arrogance and politeness. Episode 53: "Blame him for being arrogant and disrespectful and refusing to reuse him, so he gave in." Such a character is often unacceptable. As early as the forty-first session, there was a saying, "I saw a general in the city riding a flying horse and shouting,' Wei Yan is nobody, how dare he make trouble! "Do you know my general Wen Pin?" It is conceivable that Wei Yan was not reused under Liu Biao.
Third, relying on high work and high service, everyone goes down. This can be seen from the dialogue between Wei Yan and Fei Yi in chapter 1 14. Wei Yan said, "Although the Prime Minister is dead, I am still here. Yang Yi just has a long history. Can Ann become this great position? He should only help the coffin be buried in Sichuan. I will attack Sima Yi at my own speed, and I must succeed. Can you waste national affairs because of the prime minister alone? " At that time, Zhuge Liang entrusted all major events to Yang Yi and awarded them to Jiang Wei with the secret method of war. Who is Wei Yan? How dare you speak so brazenly!
These three aspects of Wei Yan's personality are really unacceptable. If the mountain king can still seek a happy life, Wei Yan is not a mountain king, but a general who leads the troops to fight. Military orders are like mountains, demanding absolute obedience; If you go your own way, it will inevitably lead to chaos and unpredictable consequences.
At the beginning, I was still tinkering around, and I complained, "If the Prime Minister listens to me and goes out of the Meridian Valley, then I can have both sides of Luoyang, not to mention Chang 'an! "What are the benefits of Qishan today? I have ordered the soldiers to enter, but now I teach them to stop. What can I do for you? " For the hundredth time, Chen Shi lost his life by instigating him. Later, at the critical moment when the Shu army retreated, it was the first two points to "burn the plank road and block the road with troops" and finally bring about its own destruction.
As the saying goes, character determines fate. Wei Yan's willful conceit doomed his tragic ending in the future.
Third, Wei Yan's former glory and later humiliation
If Wei Yan's life is divided into two stages, it can be divided into Liu Bei's "glory" before his death and "humiliation" after his death.
Say "Rong" first. Wei Yanxian rebelled against Liu Biao, then killed Han Xuan, and didn't stop until he met Liu Bei. Although it is not among the five tiger generals, it is often used as a general, and a big battle is bound to be fought. When Liu Bei entered Sichuan, he made more contributions side by side with the five tigers and generals-attacking Luocheng, shooting Cao Cao and defending Hanzhong. Of course, at this time, the power of the Five Tigers will be fully displayed, and Wei Yan is still in the sharpening stage. After Liu Bei's death, Wei Caiyan stood out from the crowd and failed to let Liu Bei, who was grateful to him, see his talent at a glance. This is also a pity.
Say "humiliation" first. Wei Yan was transferred from Hanzhong during Zhuge Liang's southern expedition and was succeeded by Ma Chao. From then on, Wei Yan became a real chess piece. He can only stay in his heart and let others drive. Here, like a blooming flower, he can give full play to it. "Defeat Guo Huai, take Xishu, capture Meng Huo alive, shoot Zhang He and fight Yi Gi." Life is so proud, come on!
But after knowing everyone's true views on Wei Yan's heart, I realized that this was only a superficial phenomenon, and there was a great "humiliation" behind it.
When I first met Kong Ming, I was dubbed as "having bones behind my head". When Deng Zhiyan said the rudeness of Wei Yan and Chen Shi for a hundred times, Kong Ming said with a smile: "Wei Suyan has a negative attitude, and I know that he often has grievances; Use it because it is brave. After a long time, it will be harmful. " This is Zhuge Liang's consistent Wei Yanguan. Jiang Wan, Zhuge Liang's successor, has the same view on Wei Yan: "Every day, people rely on the offensive and everyone goes down." Dong Yun said, "Self-reliance is always unfair. Those who don't object are afraid of the Prime Minister's ear. Today's newly dead prime minister, seize the opportunity to make an insurrection, is bound to ... "
Not only for Shu, but also for the people. What do you mean "not insulting"?
As the saying goes, once every emperor is a courtier. Since Liu Bei is dead and a bosom friend is hard to find, why are you willing to suffer this humiliation and not find another way out?
Fourth, why did Wei Yan lose his reputation?
The Romance of the Three Kingdoms describes Wei Yan's beheading in great detail. "Wei Yan rebelled and Ma Dai beheaded" is well known to all women and children, but this is just a novel.
This is by no means the case. The real reason for Wei Yan's ruin is the dispute with Yang Yi.
Yang yi served as prime minister for a long time, raising food and grass, and being a counselor and military aircraft to be sensitive; Wei Yanling, Prime Minister Sima, took military action. The two of them are self-reliant and have long been in the same boat. Kong Ming was worried about fashion, and the contradiction heated up after his death. Especially when Wei Yan learned that the Prime Minister entrusted Yang Yi with all the major events, his anger broke out. "Yang Yi is just a long history. How can he bear such a big responsibility?" Yang Yi, on the other hand, said, "I am afraid I will do harm if I see fighting, but Zhang Yan wants to raise the masses in the north, so he leads the masses to attack ..." First, he rumoured Wei Yan's rebellion, and then "justified" to kill him.
Wei Yan was unpopular, and it was even more difficult to sing at that time. Why is it difficult for Yang Yi to lead the public to destroy it? Moreover, after Wei Yan's death, Yang Yi stepped on her first step to punish the traitor and finally avenged her life!
As the saying goes, if you do more injustice, you will die. Yang Yi, who was full of greed for power, ended up in shame.
It's a pity that Wei Yan did not die on the battlefield, but died under the butcher's knife of his own, and was named as a rebellion. In the dispute with Yang Yi, he was very unwise, impulsive and lost his general demeanor.
If Wei Yan's character can be more peaceful, if he is not impulsive when the Shu army retreats, if he puts the overall situation first in the dispute between Yang Yi, if ...
Verb (abbreviation for verb) The power of trust.
Most people who have read the Three Kingdoms are fascinated by Liu Bei's thickness and are not impressed by Zhuge Liang's practical ability. Liu Bei's thickness contains trust in his subordinates, which embodies superb leadership art; And hands-on, "personally punishing more than 20 people" easily leads to unclear division of labor, which is not conducive to talent growth.
There are many descriptions in the book that Liu Bei trusts his subordinates. Especially for the promotion and reuse of General Wei Yan, the talent of employing people is better than that of Cao Cao and Sun Quan. Then came the forty-first time when Zhao Yun fought Cao Cao's million-strong army. Both Mi Fang and Zhang Fei suspected that "Zhao Zilong betrayed Cao Cao". Liu Bei didn't believe it alone and said, "Zilong is like a stone of my troubles, and wealth is beyond reach." The consequences should be what they said. In the eighty-fifth year, when Liu Bei retreated to Baidicheng, a minister called Huang Quan to surrender to Wei and suggested sending his family to the company for criticism. He handled it very appropriately. "Huang Quan was cut off by Wu Bing on the north bank of Hebei. If he wants to go home, he must surrender to Wei. Why does he blame his family? " Still give Mi Lu a raise. Later, xelloss worshipped Huang Quan as the general of Zhennan, but refused to accept his resignation.
However, there are still some doubts about Zhuge Liang's practical ability. Is there no talent available in Shu? Of course not, even if there is no talent like Cao Wei in the Central Plains, it can be said that "there are many talents in Sichuan", and it will not be said that "anyone who is fined more than 20 must visit in person". In fact, this is caused by Zhuge Liang's great trust in his subordinates. To put it bluntly, it is dictatorship. As a result, at the end of the year, "there was no general in Shu, and Liao Hua was the pioneer." The fault and shortage of such talents are closely related to Zhuge Liang's selection and employment system.
Zhuge Liang's distrust of Wei Yan can be found in various chapters. As soon as they met, they put a big hat on Wei Yan, and threatened that "if there is infidelity, I will take your head." In particular, Wei Yan refused to adopt a plan when he came out of the meridian valley. He thought it was specious: "I took a flat road from Longyou and marched according to law. Why worry! " For the hundredth time, Chen Shi was beheaded for violating military orders. Confucius said, "Wei has an opposite phase, and I know it often refers to injustice ..." Why is it unfair? Wei Yan once urged that "I wish to get 5,000 chosen men, take the road of praise, and follow the east of Qinling Mountain and the meridian valley in the north ..." Zhuge Liang could not adopt his suggestion, but he also used the excuse of being afraid of hurting the gods, purely for fear that he would dwarf Wei Yan's reputation. In the battle of Jieting, Ma Su and his men died or surrendered, and there were more than 5,000? Every time I read a book, I have to be filled with emotion at this time, and one day I can't help but think of a story.
Legend has it that there was a young prince named Puymaly Weng on the island of Cyprus in ancient Greece. He loved art very much and finally sculpted a statue of goddess through his own efforts. He couldn't let go of his favorite job and looked at her affectionately all day. After a long time, the goddess finally miraculously resurrected and was willing to be his wife.
This story contains profound philosophy: expectation is a kind of power, and the power of love and expectation is always much more effective than coercion and blow.
Wei Yan is so dead set on Liu Bei! He has a high sense of accomplishment and honor, and he devoted himself to Shu until he died. However, just when Wei Yan was ambitious, the long-standing suspicion was quietly pervasive and unstoppable. "There is an anti-bone behind his head." Zhuge Liang will never be able to take off his big hat just because he cut a Han Xuan that is lighter than killing people. Shu looked at Wei Yan with colored glasses like a pig.
Wei Yan, you are dead!
