What is Gothic?
Gothic, as a noun and an architectural form, can only refer to Gothic architecture and Gothic fonts. But as an adjective before art or fashion, it can refer to Gothic art or Gothic fashion. In the last few years of the 20th century, this word frequently appeared in fashion newspapers. Gothic art refers to the architecture-oriented art that appeared in Europe from 12 century to 16 century, including sculpture, painting and arts and crafts. Gothic art is exaggerated, asymmetrical, strange, light, complex and decorative, and its main feature is the frequent use of vertically extending lines. In architecture, there are typical elements such as pointed arch coupons, small minarets, stacked walls, flying buttresses, and colored glass inlays. During the hundreds of years when Gothic art prevailed, European clothing was obviously influenced by Gothic. For example, the pointed Henin hat is like a small steeple, and there are two tights with different colors of trouser legs, shoes with upturned tips, a coat decorated with asymmetric arms and so on. At present, fashions called Gothic are often asymmetrical, and sometimes even printed with factory-like heraldry. Of course, the so-called gothic fashion, that is, a little gothic art, is more commercial. Gothic Cloud sounds like a promotional slogan. Gothic art is a romantic art. Therefore, Gothic fashion can be regarded as a branch of fashionable neo-romantic fashion. In China's clothing industry, the word Goth is often cited by academic circles.
