Characteristics of Chinese painting
1, literati. There are primitive art and folk art in China's traditional art forms, but it is a pen and ink cultural form formed after the intervention of literati, which is what we call Chinese painting today. Chen Shiceng called it a literati painting with freehand brushwork.
2. Poetry is an important standard and the second characteristic of Chinese painting. Before discussing poetry, it is necessary to reiterate the characteristics of literati. Throughout the history of China's painting, all the masters of past dynasties were literate, including Wang Mian, a boy who herded cattle, who tried to turn himself into a scholar before becoming a master. Qi Baishi was born in poverty, worked as a carpenter and taught himself to paint.
3, pen and ink, which is also very different from western painting. Western painting color, modeling, light and shade, anatomy, structure, perspective. Westerners think that you have not surpassed oil painting. From these elements, you really have not surpassed oil painting. All "major themes" can be painted in oil paintings.
