Team history
As one of the NBA plans to expand into Canada, Vancouver Grizzlies joined the NBA with Toronto Raptors in 1995-96 season. Vancouver and Toronto have become the only two non-American teams since the 1946-47 season (Toronto Eskimos had a short experience in the BAA league in 1946). After the formal acceptance of 1994 on April 27th, Vancouver Grizzlies became the 29th team in the league. This sudden decision caused quite a shock in Vancouver's sports world. The last time Vancouver tried to own an NBA team was in the early 1980s. At that time, Nelson Skalbania, a local entrepreneur, tried to expand the territory of the NBA to the north, but eventually failed. 10 years later1February 1993, local sports giant Arthur Griffiths revealed that he was trying to own an NBA team in the local area. After learning about the content of the dispute between the newly established expansion committee of the Alliance and Toronto on the qualification of joining the Alliance, Griffith thinks that Vancouver is qualified enough to persuade the Alliance to expand its market in two cities. Griffith's company, North Sports Company, is the main owner of the local NHL ice hockey team Vancouver Canadians. Griffith had already prepared to build a 20,000-seat gymnasium in the city center. The stadium will be completed as scheduled before the 1995-96 season, which can be used as the home of both the ice hockey team and the basketball team. Team management Vancouver Basketball Cooperative Enterprise visited Minneapolis during the 1994 All-Star Weekend, and got the preliminary approval from the expansion committee of the league on Valentine's Day to own an NBA team. This step also paved the way for the final full approval of the alliance. The cost for Vancouver and Toronto to join the league is $65.438+0.25 billion, which is much more than the $325 million that the four teams paid when they expanded in the 65.438+0.988 and 89 seasons. Similar to the experience of most rookie teams in NBA, Grizzlies have a hard time in the first few years of NBA, and they are well-known fishing troops. In the first four seasons, the Grizzlies never won more than 20 games in the regular season, and even set a record of losing streak in the NBA. In a bleak wind and biting rain, grizzly bears' only comfort is that they have the right to make others envy them every year. Grizzly bears, with their junior qualifications and lower status, gradually gained many capable players by virtue of their draft picks and exchanges-1Bryant Rivers in 995,1Abdel-Rahim in 996,1mike bibby in 998. However, the arrival of the stars did not really change the fishbone state of the grizzly bear. 200 1, the grizzlies moved back to Memphis, USA, and changed its name to Memphis grizzlies. The team made up its mind to "make a big change", and first traded mike bibby for "white chocolate" (jayson williams)-his expressive play was highly praised by local fans. Subsequently, the team traded core Rahim for Hawks' lorenzen wright and Spanish rookie Pau Gasol. Experts such as shane battier and Drew Gooden also joined in. Many young players with great potential have come together. Gasol was elected as the best rookie of the season, and the Grizzlies have gradually attracted attention from all walks of life. In 2002, Jerry West, a famous basketball player, became the new president of basketball business. FedEx also came and announced that it would spend 90 million dollars to buy the naming rights of the upcoming stadium of Grizzlies for 20 years. This new stadium with 65,438+08,400 seats will be named FedEx Forum, and it is planned to be put into use in the autumn of 2004. In 2004, the Grizzlies made history, made the playoffs for the first time after the team was established, and still ranked sixth in the West. Such progress can only be described as a miracle. Jerry West was voted the coach of the year, and head coach Huber Brown was named the coach of the year. In the first round of the playoffs, the Grizzlies were eliminated 0-4 by the Spurs, a western powerhouse. In 2005, the Grizzlies reached the playoffs again, but were swept 4-0 by the Sun at their peak. 20112011On April 30th, Grizzlies won the No.1 San Antonio Spurs in the regular season with a score of 99: 9 1 (with a total score of 4: 2), creating a miracle of Black 8. In the second round against the young thunder, after seven fierce battles, they lost to their opponents 3-4 and stopped in the second round, but they created the best result in the team's history. I believe the young grizzly bear will go further next season. History: 1995-200 1 Vancouver grizzly bear 2006 54 38+0- Memphis grizzly bear today.
