1992 At its forty-seventh session, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted resolution 47/3, declaring the date when the United Nations adopted the World Programme of Action concerning Disabled Persons from 12, that is, from 1992, as the International Day of Disabled Persons, and requesting all governments and relevant national, regional and international organizations to fully cooperate in the implementation of the resolution.
Countries and relevant organizations are required to strengthen their efforts and take sustained and effective measures to improve the situation of disabled people. Generally speaking, the United Nations will choose the theme of the International Day of Disabled Persons in a certain period according to major events of special concern in the field of international disabled persons or issues closely related to disabled persons.
