As early as 1839, French scientist Becqurel discovered that light can produce potential difference in different parts of semiconductor materials, which was later referred to as "photovoltaic effect" or "photoelectric effect" for short. 1954, American scientists Chapin and Pearson made practical monocrystalline silicon solar cells for the first time in Bell Laboratories, and photovoltaic power generation technology was born.
