Four Elephants: East Black Dragon, West White Tiger, South Suzaku and North Xuanwu.
The four great beasts are the legendary beasts in ancient China, namely, Qinglong, Baihu, Suzaku and Xuanwu, which belong to the combination of ancient mythology and astronomy. Four kinds of animals are represented by different colors: oriental cyan is wood, western white is gold, southern red is fire, northern black is water, and middle yellow is earth. In addition, Huainanzi mentioned that Huanglong, one of the five dragons, is in the middle, which is the length of four beasts.
The ancients imagined the seven nights in the east, west, north and south as four animal images, called "four elephants".
Dongqisu: Like a flying dragon soaring in the night sky in early spring and early summer, it is called "East Palace Black Dragon";
Seven nights in the north: like snakes and turtles. In the night sky in winter and early spring, it is called "Gong Bei Xuan Wu";
Seven nights in the Western Heaven: In late autumn and early winter, the tiger jumps out of the night sky, so it is called "West Palace White Tiger";
Seven nights in the south: it looks like a suzaku spreading its wings and flying. In the night sky in summer and early autumn, it is called "Nangong Suzaku".
In ancient China, astrology refers to the black dragon in the east, the white tiger in the west, Suzaku in the south and Xuanwu in the north.
