Its main tasks are: to guide the mass protection of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons in the army, to carry out nuclear observation, chemical observation and chemical and radiation reconnaissance, to carry out dose and contamination inspection, to carry out disinfection and decontamination, to organize the implementation of smoke screen support, and to directly cooperate with infantry and fire-breathing troops to fight. During the Liberation War of the People's Liberation Army of China, some units established chemical defense units. After the founding of New China, chemical defense forces were established, leading institutions and colleges were established one after another, chemical defense departments and units at all levels were established one after another, equipment was continuously improved, and chemical defense support capacity was continuously enhanced.
