Xinyu City is located in the west of central Jiangxi Province and the west section of zhejiang-jiangxi railway. The longest point in the whole territory is 10 1.9 km, and the widest point from north to south is 65 km. It is 0/50km away from Nanchang/Kloc, the provincial capital, to Zhangshu City and Xingan County in the east, Yuanzhou District in Yichun City in the west, Qingyuan District, Anfu County and Xiajiang County in Ji 'an City in the south, and to shanggao county and Gao 'an City in the north.
The total area of the city is 3 178 square kilometers (accounting for 1.9% of the total area of the province), of which the area of Yushui District is 1.785.92 square kilometers, and the area of Fenyi County is 1.39 1.76 square kilometers. Jiangxi-Guangdong Expressway and Shanghai-Rui Expressway pass through the city from north to south and from east to west respectively.

There is a village inhabited by ethnic minorities-Hongshan Village, Xu Yao Town, Yushui District, which is a group of Gelao, Yi, Miao and Buyi immigrants from Liupanshui, Guizhou Province, with 78 people in 12 households.
