Basic Law of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region
Legal Analysis: The Basic Law of the People's Republic of China (PRC) SAR is the constitutional document of the SAR, which was formulated and passed by the National People's Congress in accordance with the Constitution of People's Republic of China (PRC). The Basic Law stipulates the basic principles and policies of the state towards Hong Kong and the system to be implemented in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The systems and policies of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, including the social and economic systems, the system for safeguarding the basic rights and freedoms of residents, the administrative, legislative and judicial systems and relevant policies, are all based on the provisions of the Basic Law.

On March 30th, 2002/kloc-0, the 27th meeting of the 13th the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC) closed in the Great Hall of the People. The newly revised methods for selecting the Chief Executive of the People's Republic of China (PRC) Special Administrative Region and the Basic Law of the People's Republic of China (PRC) Special Administrative Region, Annex II to the Basic Law of People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Methods for Election and Voting of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region were unanimously adopted, and will take effect on March 3 1.

Article 1 The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is an inalienable part of People's Republic of China (PRC).

Article 2 The National People's Congress authorizes the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to exercise a high degree of autonomy and enjoy administrative, legislative and independent judicial power, including that of final adjudication.

Article 3 The administrative organs and legislature of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region shall be composed of permanent residents of Hong Kong in accordance with the relevant provisions of this Law.

Article 4 The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region shall protect the rights and freedoms of residents and others in the Region according to law.

Article 5 The socialist system and policies shall not be practiced in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the previous capitalist system and way of life shall remain unchanged for 50 years.
