Investigation on Hainan's humanistic environment

In desperation, Mr. Bai Yang, "Lu Xun of Taiwan Province Province", died of illness for half a year. Now, I can't help feeling sad when I review my reading excerpts about The Complete Biography of Bai Yang a few years ago and reread his book The Ugly China Man, which once made China people extremely taboo. I wrote a poem in memory of Mr. Bai Yang:

If I say this:/the whiteness of snow is false/-it melts into water/it shows its original color.

I must have-/just as the voice fell, there were/a thousand arrows/shooting at me!

A few days ago, Mr. Jiang Feng, a Hainan poet who has always been deeply saddened by his native land, suddenly said to me, "Virtue has made me terminally ill because this place is too poor-poor education and poor humanities." Hearing this, I was puzzled for a moment and then asked him. He only replied in a few words: "When I was thinking about virtue, others threw banana peels in the street." This time, I suddenly understood what he meant-I could see that his lines were full of helplessness and disappointment.

When it comes to Hainan, people's first impression is that it is a good place. People who have been to Hainan, or people who have seen Hainan from the media, are deeply impressed by it: tall coconut trees, green sea, blue sky and white clouds ... Indeed, Hainan Island is worthy of the reputation of "fascinating island"-although it dare not say that the seasons are like spring, the beautiful scenery and pleasant climate make tourists from all over the world linger; In addition, a wide variety of fresh fruits make people feast their eyes.

When it comes to natural environment and climate, Hainan Province, as the youngest province in China, does have something to be proud of. But because of its youth, its humanistic environment is too thin compared with other provinces. In this regard, I once wrote in the article Reading Between the Lines (IV):

I come from an island province in the south of China. I know that people who grew up in the island culture always have a narrow mentality of "moonlight at home wants how bright to have how bright" because they are remote and have no information. And I, in order to get rid of this deficiency to a certain extent, once wrote a poem "Silent Farewell": "Hometown, please forgive me/I will forget you for the time being//I am on my way!"

This is what I wrote after reading the article "Eliminating Regional Abuse" by Gracian, an ancient Spanish philosopher. Speaking of the long-standing "regional abuse" (or "regional shortage") in Hainan, as a native of Hainan, I have a deep understanding. To sum up, there are the following aspects:

First, local customs. When it comes to customs, all countries, regions and nationalities in the world have their own characteristics, which cannot be compared, let alone praised or criticized. But when it comes to local conditions and customs, judging Hainanese by "loving leisure and hating work" is exaggerated, but it also has its own appropriateness. Throughout the world, there is no place like Hainan where betel nut stalls and tea shops can be seen everywhere. Women play poker in groups of three to win a little money, and men talk about winning the lottery in groups of five. In rural areas, after farmers plough and rake fields, the next work is done by women. No wonder some people say that women in Hainan are the least beautiful and their skin is tanned by the sun. Although Hainan has no winter in four seasons and crops three times a year, it only cultivates two seasons because it is too hard; In addition, as long as it is a dangerous operation, it can be said that no one from Hainan has done it.

Second, the overall exclusion. Shanghai people's "xenophobia complex" has long been deeply rooted, and Hainan people's "xenophobia complex" is second to none. But the difference is that Hainan people do not exclude foreigners from starting a business or living in Hainan, but strongly oppose their children marrying daughters-in-law or son-in-law outside the province. Exquisitely speaking, this is a traditional concept formed by geographical factors-the reason why marriage is not allowed is because the transportation is inconvenient and it is not easy to cross the sea. After marriage, it is like a sentence "Where will you go" between parents; Marriage is not allowed because there are great cultural differences between inland and island. Often the woman finally divorced because she could not integrate, which made her parents feel "unreliable" over time. Nowadays, although the traffic on and off the island has been smooth for a long time, Hainan people have not kept pace with the times, and these traditional concepts are still passed down from generation to generation.

Third, there is a serious shortage of talents. As the largest special economic zone in China, Hainan Province is as embarrassed as Hubei Province-the slogan of "Rise of Central China" has been shouted wave after wave, but it has been calm again. Although colleges and universities in Hubei Province train a large number of talents for the society every year, a large number of students "parted ways" after graduation and did not stay in local industries. The same is true of Hainan Province. There are countless students who go to the mainland for further study every year, but there are only three kinds of jobs after graduation: (1) Those who go back to work in Hainan are generally only children because of their parents' strong demands; (2) Those who don't want to go back, because the overall salary of the local labor force in Hainan is low (the salary level above 1000 yuan is very common in Hainan Province), which is not attractive. (3) I want to go back, but I can't go back. This kind of people hold the feeling of "serving the country", but they have to commit themselves to the outside world because of the low local treatment and bleak career development prospects.

Fourth, the education level is low. Although parents generally have a strong concept of supporting their children to study, it is an indisputable fact that the education level in Hainan Province is low. In addition, the teaching quality of some junior and senior high schools is poor, and students fight frequently on campus. In some towns and villages, teenagers who drop out of school at home take drugs. What's more, even Hainan students who receive higher education outside the province can't get rid of the bad habits that have been accumulated for a long time. Some are ignorant, some are addicted to playing, some are disruptive ... Anyone who is "bullied" will gather fellow villagers to attack someone with "loyalty" and relish that this is "Qi Xin" and "unity".

..... I wrote these words because "I love this land deeply". Finally, I quote the ancient Roman philosopher Emperor Aurelius: "If the country is damaged, you should not be angry with the person who damaged the country, but let him see his mistakes."
