Xiangxi ponkan is a geographical indication product in China and a specialty of Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture in Hunan Province. Xiangxi is the most suitable area for developing citrus cultivation in China, with a history of at least 2,000 years. Xiangxi belongs to subtropical monsoon climate, with four distinct seasons, abundant precipitation and sunshine, no heat in summer and no cold in winter, which is very suitable for citrus growth. It is recognized by China Fruit Association as the "Hometown of Ponkan in China". Ponkan produced in Xiangxi is known as "the king of oranges". The fruit is moderate in size, oblate, orange in color, easy to peel, delicious in color, crisp and tender in meat, rich in juice, rich in flavor and high in soluble solids. It was rated as the best-selling brand in China consumer market, won the best-selling product award in China Green Food Expo in 2004, and passed the "Green Food" certification of China Green Food Development Center.
